It came with a P4 2.8GHz CPU you could upgrade to a 3.0 also had a 3.2 and maybe a 3.4 but the performance difference would be minimal. The high end CPU's are hard to find at a good price. The spec sheet said stock machine has 512Mb RAM so the only realistic and affordable fix IMO is to increase RAM to 2GB.
Maybe add a 7800 AGP video card if you play games that would help.

Look up the model online and find out what processor is in it, including socket number. Then do some searches for that type of processor and see if you can find a faster processor (or one with a bigger cache). Be careful and triple check your info, make sure its compatible.
As with PC's today, the manufacturer doesn't always include the very fastest processor with their PC's, if it is an older machine you should have no problem finding what was top of the line back then and upgrading. It just takes a lot of searching. You might also look into maxing out the computer's RAM while you're at it.
I use a 9 year old machine as a web server, runs great.

If it is truly "obsolete", then there is no meaningful CPU upgrade available for it. Depending on the motherboard, you may be able to overclock the processor, but this won't provide a meaningful increase on a really old computer.
