Google Crater Lake in Oregon. Every August they have races in running and biking. I'm not sure if it is a marathon, but I now it will be challenging because of the mountainous terrain. People come from all over the world to participate. I think there is an enrollment cap, so hurry if you are interested.

For fun and scenic there is the Lost Dutchman marathon in AZ. My favorite is the San Francisco marathon which takes you on a great tour of the city and includes the bridge. Do hill training though. The Big Sur marathon is also a very good one in CA. It goes along Hwy 1 on the coast. Very pretty, but again do hill training. Good luck and run hard and smart.

Detroit Free Press. It's a great marathon that is the only international marathon in the world. You get to run to Canada across the Ambassador Bridge (not as intimidating as it looks) and you get to come back in the only underwater mile in any marathon via the US/Canada Tunnel. You run by Tiger Stadium, Ford Field, Belle Isle, Corktown, Mexican Town, Indian Village, and Joe Louis Arena.

My favorite for scenery is the St. George, Utah Marathon. Usually nice temperatures, beautiful red rocks scenery, and a downhill course that many people use as thier Boston qualifier.

For pure fun, it's hard to beat Boston, if you can qualify. Nothing else beats the crowd all along the course (particularly the Wellesley girls screaming thier heads off) and the overall atmosphere.

California International Marathon...It is a fast course, pretty much all downhill and you finish at the State Capital.
