So, with everyone nagging Favre about interceptions..?

It is common to compare TD's with INT's, correct? Ok, then let's compare Favre's ratio of TD:INT to some other great QB's

Yes, he threw a lot, mainly coming from his gunslinger mentality and the length of his career. But, most people compare TD's to INT's - so, if you do that, Favre comes off better than some of the other most revered QB's - for example, he has a better TD:INT ratio than: Tarkenton, Aikman, Elway, Unitas, Moon, Staubach, Bradshaw, Kelly, Graham, Fouts, etc. I could go on, but these are all guys that ARE legends. Numbers don't always work - at times, you have to look at ratios.

Montana, Manning, and Brady have fairly better ratios, Marino barely has a better ratio. Many greats have over 200 INT's. Are you going to start ragging on them for it, too? If you actually compared careers, if many people had played as long as Favre did, they'd had thrown MORE than he did! Imagine that, huh?

Update:

When people rank him as one of the best all time - most people attempt to draw out the 'interceptions' card -- as if other qb's didn't throw a lot -- to refute the statement. I am just trying to prove those kind of people wrong.

Update 2:

I didn't mean ragging on him directly - just when they compare him to other greats.

Update 3:

I didn't mean ragging on him directly - just when they compare him to other greats.

Update 4:

You're right - that two year stint where he threw, what, 54 INT's really hurt him as far as comparing goes. The trouble is, most people have forgotten how damn good he was in his prime, they saw the years when he tried to do it all himself and forced more bad throws than he had to when he had more than just one good receiver (Donald Driver)

Update 5:

TJ, I am not saying he is the best ever by any means. In my OWN top 10 QB thread, I said i'd rate him at 2,3, or 4. I am just SICK of people pulling the INT card on Favre, so I did a bit of research on the other all-time greats. Looks like my research helped. If you're gonna diss ANYONE, not just favre, please, be able to back it up.

Update 6:

Yeah, I know what you mean TJ, but Packer fans are pretty crazy but insanely loyal to Brett. (the 70s and 80s not so much, ya know?)

Anyways, you made me curious with the Attempts : INT argument and here it is : About 1 in 30 throws was an INT. About 1 in 19 completions was a pick. So basically about 1 per game. Compared to, say, Elway...

Attempt: INT: 1 in 32

Completion:INT: 1 in 18. Shows that Elway was less accurate than Favre, but whatever. Favre ranks up better than most any quarterback ever, supassing everyone in the major categories. (Individual records)

People always rag about INT, saying if he didn't throw so many, he would be the best ever.

He threw the most INT because he threw the most passes.

To Favre's favor, he played in Green Bay which has historically the worst weather conditions compared to any other franchise.

    Marino- Sunny Florida

    Manning- Dome

You can go on and on.

    Excellent post!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Prediction:

    Thumbs Up-2

    Thumbs Down-4

  • Better yet, lets figure out the percentage of passes thrown to interceptions. That would be less than 5 percent.

Favre is a great and people just need to find a reason to bash a great person who is humble and one of the best at his position. There QB doesn't compare so they have to find faults with the great Brett Favre.

My friend, most of us have not forgotten how good he was.

Nor how good he played through 07, which arguably may have been his best season, SB or no.

What we are saying, is that it is ok to wanna talk up the guy, his leaving is a big deal, BUT STOP PRETENDING THE GUY IS PERFECT!!!!!!!

That is what I'm tired of. Or that if you dare to think that maybe Johnny U or Joe Montana were still better (while admitting Favre as one of the GREATS) that we immediatly get jumped on and cussed out by Cheeseheads, as though we commited high treason.

Favre is one of the all-time greats... most outside of Green Bay would stop before annointing him THE all time Great. But we give him respect as a legend. Just stop trying to brow beat us into believing he could walk on water, too.

*GOPACK... I got no prob with what you are saying... but you have to also look at how many of your fellow cheeseheads ARE saying that, and attacking the rest of us non-packers fans for it. Theere are quite a few on here that are ok..you seem to be one... but then there are a large hoard of otherrs that are really driving the rest of us nuts, ya know?

I'm not taking anything away from Farve, but I think part of it comes from the fact that at least 2 or 3 of his playoff games have ended with him gettinh picked off during a potential game winning drive. It happened twice against the Eagles.

Good job of pointing out the facts. There have been and are some good quarterbacks, but it will be awhile before their is one such as we have seen in Favre.
