Installing a disk drive in a HP laptop?
I need to install a disk drive in my dad's HP laptop. I've never opened up a laptop before. I've installed hardware into a desktop before, but not a laptop. Does anyone know where there is a walkthrough I can print out for installing a disk drive.

It's painfully easy unless it's a really old laptop.
Just look on the bottom of the laptop for a pannel that has a picture that looks like a stack of CD's. That's where the hard drive is. Unscrew the screw on the pannel , there will be a haddrive and it will probably be attached to a metal "brace" there maybe more screws on that brace, unscrew them.
Then pull ouot the drive with the brace. You'll need to remove all the screws that hold the hard drive in the brace.
Then remove the old dive and screw the new drive in the brace. Put the brace and drive back in and replace everything else as well.

Replaced the dying IBM drive in my girlfriends HP with a larger Wester Digital. I think it was on the left side. Lay it top down and you'll see two small screws that hold the drive in. Simply remove the screws and cover and the drive slides right out! Good luck! ;-)=

As long as there isnt a disc jammed in there. You should be able to open it by inserting a paper clip into the hole on the front of the drive. I have an hp laptop and i just tried it, you have to make sure you put the paper clip in straight to find the right spot.
