Where to invest $25k for the greatest return?
My finance class has a competition where we are each given $25k virtual cash and are to grow it via stock investments to a target of $500k by year end. What growth opportunities/stock are suggested investments for this virtual portfolio?

Look at the stocks that have been in the news a lot lately (bond insurers, mortgage companies, and financials). There are definitely some opportunities for 20% returns on any given day. check out C, WM, MBI, ABK, if you have until year end - you might even be able to put everything into GS and hold on to it -

If you're looking for a 200% return on your money, wait for this recession to hit bottom. You will find many bargains. Stay away from slow growth funds.

you mean 50k? You are considered a successful investor/trader if you make 10 percent a year, Warren Buffet if 20 percent, and a legend if 50 percent consistently...

For that kind of gain, you'll have to invest it into really risky, speculative things.
