NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Shamir offers a suggestion of what will happen. Bacteria, and Rancid.
Mineral Oil at best, but OIL treated interior floors aren't strictly the best answer anyway.
Without knowing at all the condition, or species of wood, or how it may have been finished before being covered by carpet, certainly your first notion should be a cleaning, even with Murphys Oil Soap, then repair tack strip holes, then FINISH the floor with a TUNG oil, mineral oil, even Flax seed or Linseed oil, OR Poly substances, Varnishes, etc.
Oil penetrates hopefully, especially in raw or sanded wood, and needs to absorb in multiple coats to FILL the wood until it approaches the surface, but it may never truly SHINE, and may not be compatible with waxes or other finish substances you might apply, should you ever choose to.

The after effects are that you will
never be able to get rid of all the
oil residue and the next time you
walk across in your socks, you will
go flying. The floor will be very
slippery.
If the wood flooring has a "finish"
that protects the wood, the oil will
never penetrate anyhow.
It is well worth the money and time to go to a good hardware
or Home Supply store and get the
proper product for cleaning and
polishing your wood floors.
By the way, have you any idea
what hardwood flooring is worth
today??? You cannot replace it
because that wood no longer exists. When you go to sell, those
hardwood floors will upgrade your
home considerably. It is best if
you treat them nicely and be very
glad for what you have.

First job is to sand the floor, you can hire floor sanders for a reasonable cost
Next after you have removed any dust is to apply a polyurathane as this not only seals the floor it is extremely hard wearing
Use no less then 2 coats of polyurathane and 3 or 4 in a high traffic area ( hallway, kitchen)
Dont use oils because of the health problems.
Happy sanding, regards joe

Mmmmm, sounds good. A little salt n pepper, lightly searing the wood on a hot skillet, mmmm.
I wouldn't do this, although I'm sure it wouldn't hurt the wood, and it will look, oiled when done!
I would use mineral oil if anything like that. Thats what you oil wood cutting boards with, so why not.

They ARE real wood.. Just different layers laminated together..Do NOT use water or murphys or liquid gold..LG will leave em looking good but very slippery No steam mop either..Alum ox finish is a newer top coat that makes them very hard finish as a wear layer.. Still can scratch but it s still a tough wear layer..There are cleaners for the wood and all it is a mist type cleaner and all you need is the swivel "dust mop" w/ the washable and removable terri cloth head..GL

Vegitable oil will deteroriate within the cracks, it will then allow bacteria to form and of course viruses as the poster above states.
To clean this up would be a major problem as getting that oil from the seams would be near impossible.
There are a lot of crazy solutions to problems on the internet, many of which are ridiculous, This is one of them.

Vegetable oil will support Bacteria. It will get into the floor cracks and support bacterial life. And as you know, where there is Bacteria, there are viruses present.
Dont do it.

I've seen some oak projects finished with vegetable oil and they looked good, in my opinion. It will not give you a shine and it won't stand up to abuse, which those projects I saw weren't going to get any.

Not really, although I use to use animal fat.It just keeps the wood from drying out.
