Why is my cough worse in the evening?

I have had a "tickle" in my throat and a stuffy nose for about a 2 weeks now. The tickle feels like its right at the top of my airway passage.

When I wake in the morning my cough is light and basically goes away when I drink something. It stays away all day with the occasional clearing of my throat. It returns around 5 PM, and continues to get worse through the evening, almost gagging by late-night. Its been the same way for a week now and doesnt seem to get better or worse.

It may because your body starts to slow down and relax as you relax. I'm not really sure but I know that when you are sick, it seems to get worse at night because you start to slow down. Sorry, I'm not much of a help but I tried! :)

    good luck!

at night, there is a change in the temperature and it is a little bit cooler than the morning or afternoon.. so because the temperature had changed, your body will also respond to it.. your bronchioles will become constricted or narrowed which would make expectoration of phlegm difficult for you unlike in daytime where in your bronchioles which would help the phlegm be expectorated without too much difficulty.. have you already checked this up with your doctor? i advice you to have it checked, or if not, just increase your fluid intake of up to 8 to ten glasses of water a day which would loosen up secretions and will help you cough up easily..

it always gets worse at night,The phlegm settles in your chest.Do you have a cool mist humidifier? That will break up the phlegm and take the moister out of the air.Have you ever tried to rub some Vick's vapor rub on the bottom of your feet and then put a pair of socks on and go to bed? People swear this works.

All the talking you do all day makes it more irritated and worse at the end of the day. When you rest all night it gets a little better.
