Your Hauling & Coaching fees?

Just curious, how much do you pay for hauling & coaching for horse shows and what does it all include?

When I was still showing, I would help out around the barn and help some of the boarders take care of their horses. In exchange, my trainer often didn't charge me a fee (though I think her rate was normally $25) and a boarder would often trailer my horse for free. It worked out well for me.

Typically you charge a day fee for that type of thing. I personally charge a $40 day fee. Honestly I've never known anyone wanting to pay for a trainer to trailer the horse and then not have them stay to coach. Whenever a student goes to a show, it's basically a given that the trainer is there to help them. It's hard to say if the trainer would refuse or not. Even though they are being paid to trailer the horse over, to an extent it's a bit of a waste of time (not to stay) that they could be giving another lesson, riding other horses in training, ext.

Depending on where we go, I usually pay $20-$40 for trailering and depending on how many classes I am showing in, coaching is $20 for 3 classes and $25 for four classes. Sometimes I work off my coaching fees though. This is all canadian money. These are just schooling shows.

A day fee of $45.00 to the trainer.

If the trainer rides or schools my horse at a show, I'll pay an additional $35.00 per day.

$.75 cents a mile for hauling.

If we stay at a motel the trainer's room is picked up by the students and the charges are split amongst them. The same for meals purchased.

In Maine where I board we pay $35/hour for coaching/lessons and a set price per mile for hauling. It was 50 cents per mile but I am sure it will be more this year. Good luck!

Lessons cost $40 for me and if she goes to a show with me, she does not charge more than that - if her more wealthy clients are there, they pay her then she doesn't charge me.

She used to haul me to shows for free - since she was going anyway and doesn't live far from me. I have my own truck and trailer - not the prettiest things ever, but it is nice to toss my mare in a trailer whenever I want and not worry about someone else's schedule!

My trainer hauls me there free, which is really nice.

I pay about the price of a lesson a day, maybe a little more.
