Borderline personality?

I'm beginning to suspect that I may be a Borderline personality. Just based on what people close to me tell me, and my own research and personal experiance with someone who was... How do I know for sure. I have no insurance and can't afford a shrink.

"Borderline Personality" is one of those catch-alls that's recently become popular and may have some meaning -- but is just as often thrown at people by lazy practitioners or even everyday people.

I know a good book -- no, two --that describe personality types in a coherent way -- each type in both it's healthy and less healthy versions. You can probably find it (at least the second one) at the library. If not, worth buying as it will help you better understand yourself and others, as well as suggesting methods to become better balanced.

Both use what I've found to be an accurate and easy to understand model called the Enneagram. The first is quite "spiritually" based. It was written by a trio of Jesuits (which religion has used the Enneagram as a pastoral counseling tool for many years). The second is by an eminent psychiatrist, and sticks to the scientific. The choice of viewpoint is up to you: both are very good and enlightneing and should be of great help and comfort to you, as they have to me. Good luck, easy does it, and try to stay away from "anti-depressants", as well as alcohol and other recreational drugs.

Well, if you act like "Boy" George Warcrimes Bush, you are not even up to the level of borderline personality. He has none. I presume you are far more mentally advanced than he is.

A non-borderline personality would be considerate and thoughtful, has a steady course in life that is calm and takes things as they come without reacting to them in ways that are troubling. That is really an oversimplification, of course.

You might try using the internet and searching for Wikipedia - Borderline Personality for clues, but keep in mind, trying to diagnose yourself or trying things that have not been prescribed by a professional is a lot like a doctor diagnosing an illness over the telephone -- it's like seeing a food in a picture you've never eaten and then imagining what it tastes like! So if you really want to explore this, go ahead and research it on the internet, but then also, you need a professional analysis, and, of course, since you cannot afford a psychologist, there may be some charitable organizations or sympathetic professionals who do not have to scrounge for mental health customers. And unless you really need it for self-control, stay away from psychiatrists, the "drug doctors", unless it is part of a psychologist's analysis that you need to smooth out your emphatic behavioral peaks.

    Good luck.

well i have been diagnosed with BPD, and it's no picnic! It's seriously horrible and ruins all personal relationships that you have with people. All of my personal relationships have been marked by intense drama on my part. I have irrational anger that can come completely out of nowhere. i hate everyone around me constantly and I cause huge fights with everyone. But, at the same time, I am terrified that they hate me and I will be alone. When I hear that someone has went out without me or if I wasn't invited to the simplest event, I flip out and will tell everyone around me how much I hate them. Then, the next day I could be fine. No one really does anything horrible to me, but I flip out all the time that everyone actually hates me. And even tho I am so full of rage, I am also desperate to keep my friends from leaving me. I have loaned $100's and am desperate to "buy" affections. I also have horrible depression. I am bulimic. I drink wayyyy too much. I spend wayyy too much money. I guess that's pretty much the gist of it.

I really need to be medicated, but I also don't have insurance. Right now, I am going thru a really deep depression and I have no idea what will happen next.

So, does that sound similar at all?

From what i know of berderline personality disorder it is most commen in woman but men can be effected to.

Symptoms--the ability to manipulate ppl to ones own advantage

The ability to know another persons strong points and make them feel good

The ability to know another persons weak points and make them feel bad.

The unfortuanate of being able to be the life of the party but if some thing goes wrong then turning to rage.

there are a lot of symptoms..best to look at a web site called beyound the blues or fing one by typing in mental illnesses.

Most borderlines use very basic personal skills to get what they want.

Personally i would not listen you your friends as i dont think they have the right to diasgnose you as any thing

Most borderlines..have had a hard childhood thus..use primative ways to help themselves..some cut other try suicide even though a lot dont want to die some actually accidently commit suicide..but not in all cases.

It is also true that Professionals will often label a person borderline personality when they dont know the entire story.

i suggest that you google this disorder and see what you think.

It is not a diorder than can be managed by medication but behavoir therapy but also by you knowing your self and what is right and wrong to do in your relationships..good luck

Source(s): Labeled a bpd..over the phone when i was 19 since then have lost that label hence have read a lot about it

yeah, i think i have it too. but my therapist is always telling me to not diagnose myself and leave it to them to do, so i think you should do that too. don't worry about it unless you've been diagnosed, even if it seems obvious that you have it. it's just not a healthy thing to do.

in order to know for sure.....your gonna have to get a therapist. so idk how your gonna find one but good luck =]
