which are the nicest suburb/rural areas around Newcastle Upon Tyne?

If you were advising someone on where to move, which are the nicest suburbs or rural areas around (within 20 miles) Newcastle Upon Tyne? I am thinking nice housing, good schools, green areas, low crime. I already know many areas of Newcastle quite well, but would rather be on the outskirts or within communiting distance. I also know the names of large areas outside of the city, but am looking for specific small area names (for a property seach engine). Sensible suggestions please!

Update:

Budget of about £175000

Whickham-It is a small village about 10 mins from Newcastle. There is a very good secondary school and loads of primary schools. It is a really nice area.

Dunston-Some parts are nice, but some parts-DONT GO.

Low Fell-There are some lovely old houses and losts of things to do

Festival Park-It is opposite the team valley. There are some lovely housesa and there is no crime or anything. It is 5 mins away from Metro Centre, 5 mins from Retail world and there is a gr8 bus service

Longbenton - Not very nice unless you like bowling. Killingworth - Not bad, not great. There's not very much there. Gosforth - Yep. Nice area. You're only a stones throw from both Newcastle and the countryside. Whitley Bay & North Shields - Both pleasant areas with decent nightlife and good access to Newcastle but they are a little further out. South Shields & Shiremoor - Not so bad. I wouldn't live there personally because both areas are as dull as dishwater. If I was you, I'd go for Gosforth. It's a good combination of the things that you're looking for. It's a clean and safe place. Even if you got completely stuck in the centre of Newcastle, you could walk home in 20 minutes. Transport is excellent. You're close to Jesmond Dene and in the other direction, you have Northumberland and then Scotland. Second choice would be Whitley Bay or North Shields. They're equally as nice as Gosforth, but not so good in terms of commuting to Newcastle.

If you want a serious answer you have to say what your approximate budget will be.

For example, you could buy a house for 2 million on Darras Hall and live next to the Newcastle United footballers (at one extreme.)

Again for £140,000 you could buy a house in a reasonable area in Kingston Park.

So, help us and we shall be able to advise you better. What would be your top price for a property?
