I was interested in working at a particular place. I called them one day and told them I was interested, even though they didn't have any openings. Turns out they had been wanting to fire someone who wasn't working out, but had no one to replace her. When I called them, they terminated her that day and hired me. If there is someplace you are interested in, call them up! You never know.
PS: I'm still there, 20 years later.

i called up the company myself and asked who i can speak to about available job openings. i got there phone number from the internet. this works if you know what type of company or field you want to work in. i would litterally make it a routine where i woke up every morning and called at least 5-10 places. many said no, some said to fax my resume and others called me in for an interview.

A local job agency, smaller firms are better as they work harder for you than the larger chains. I also sent my CV out to local companies with a covering letter about why I would be interested to work for them and asking them to consider me for any positions or keep my CV on file.

I am an engineer and while working for one company years ago I was at a construction meeting where my boss was being particularly disgusting. He was making comments about my breasts and such. My currant boss was present at said meeting. One the way out he handed me his card and said call him if i crack. About 2 months later I did and here I am. I all about networking.

Word of mouth - Usually if a friend recommends you to their place of employment, you have a better chance of getting that job. Also through your school's job posting page.

My boyfriend and best friend both worked at this resort. She was a lifeguard, and he was the security guard. Maybe see if anyone one of your friends know if their place of employment is hiring.
