If the world stopped spinning...?

what would happen? I'm talking about gradually, not like a car going 65 miles an hour and then someone steps on the brake. This is for a school assignment.

Much more than the earth becoming an ICE Age on one side and an Hot Box on the other would happen. Why? Because the inner Core of the earth also spins. And this is NOTHING to over look. It after all had a purpose. This causes many things to happen. But besides all that the earth itself would be a total waste pit. Water would cease, the things you take for granted would no longer be. Two thirds of the earth would dry up. The rest would be unlivable. You could not plant food or grow anything. Livestock would die as would most of the humans. Then would come the fun part the cold night if you are on that side of the world or the long Hot days if you are there. Either way it will be a long slow death will only one way out. In the ground!

This was already happened in the ancient times: Jos 10:13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.

Jos 10:14 And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel.

So with God Most High there is no impossible! And if it will happen, it could only by the power of God! And the LORD only knows what's the consequences of the events! AMEN.

    If the Earth stopped spinning:

    (1) The length of day and night would increase by 365 times. (if i am rightly assuming that the world has stopped 'spinning' but not 'revolving')

    (2) There would be big storms in oceans and winds would blow at very high speeds because of geographical changes.

    (3) Humans would be fittest to survive this change becuase most of our needs can be met artificially (temprature, light, etc.), but lot of wildlife species would become extinct because of lack of these things.

    (4) There would be a huge problem of food as the vegetation would be destroyed all over the world (trees, forests)

    (5) Lot of people would consume more non-vegetarian to survive as they would not get enough cereals etc.

    (6) Meat of lot of wild species would be available to consume as they would be dying like crazy, and people will need to eat it to survive.

There are a lot of other nasty things that would happen if you try to go deeper on these lines.

Do lemme know if the answer helped.. :-)

If the gradually decrease in spin speed is slow enough things will not set off the ground due to the effect of 3rd Law of Movement.

However, the Earth will start deteriorating since

    * all plant life on the dark side will perish due to lack of sunlight. Animals depending on those plants will follow. Depredators depending on those herbivores will follow, etc.

    * temperature will decrease in that side to the point to kill who ever does not migrate to other regions.

    * temperature will rise at the light side an again plants will die, etc. etc.

    ---

    * water cycle will be impacted, evaporation rising in light side, more ice growing in the dark side, light side areas gradually becoming deserts.

    * this in turn will affect climate around the word, pattern of storms, sea currents, others.

    * amount of death bodies will contaminate waters and spread diseases.

    ---

Struggle between survivors for the scarse amount of resources. Wars and extermination, madness.

    ---

    * Not sure if life would survive at the region in the frontier of light / dark sides.

There would be no more day or night, one side of the earth would dry up and be scorched by the sun, the other side would have a deep winter, the magnetosphere could possible collapse allowing the solar wind to scrub the atmosphere away, all sorts of things!

Aristotle says that element is the degree of circulate, hence, in basic terms as ingredient circulate time exists. Saint Augustine on the different hand says that element is the degree of circulate and not circulate, so climate issues circulate or no longer, as long because of the fact the international exists there will be time.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet, is that we would all feel MUCH, MUCH heavier. the earth's rotation is causing a centrifugal force on all of us that is working against the force of gravity.

In fact, if the earth rotated, say, twice as fast as it does now, when humans were first coming into existence, we would look totally different than we do now due to that change in force.

we would be stuck in a season but i dont know if we would still have electrical storms and we might change orbit but do you think the clouds would stand still or the other planets may sit at a stand still also

    We'd get dizzy.

Among other much more important effects, named above.
