Did I make the right choice about UNR?
Hi I got accepted into unr the other day in the college of business administration for marketing I choose marketing because I love advertising The distribution and selling parts are just ok to me. So because I hate math I decided instead to go to the Reynolds college of journalism at unr and earn my degree in jounalism with an emphasis in advertising. I heard unr has a good journalism school so did I make the right choice? What would you do?

I wouldn't have made that choice. I'm a marketing professor with two degrees in marketing, who specializes in consumer behavior, has taught advertising, and has taken only one class in distribution and one in selling over 10 years of marketing education. I don't love math either, but it was really a very small part of the programs - usually just one or two class. In general, you have more opportunities with the marketing degree than with advertising. What worries me most is that you seem to be avoiding everything you aren't crazy about right from the beginning. In order to get what you want, you do have to take some things you don't much like; in fact, I'm sure you will find things you hate in the advertising program as well.

Advertising is just a promotional aspect of marketing. Marketing focuses on all aspects of getting a product to market. Since it is a broader degree, you will have an easier time finding a job in marketing.
Keep in mind that a business administration degree is not the same as a marketing degree. With business administration you will be introduced to all aspects of how a business runs, the finance, accounting, management, marketing, human resources, etc. Your concentration may be in marketing but the difference is really about 18 credit hours between a concentration in marketing and a concentration in say, finance.
The hardest math classes you'll have to take to get business administration concentration in marketing is statistics, college algebra, financial accounting (if you call that math), and finance. All glorified high school level courses.
Journalism on the other hand will entail much more writing and very picky writing at that. I honestly think the journalism degree is probably harder to get.
