Any tree lovers out there?

I am livid. We had a lovely flowering cherry outside our garden on a tree lined avenue. It was our favourite tree, gorgeous blooms, it was at least 50 years old.

Yesterday the council chopped it down - the guy doing it was quite brusque with my wife and just told her it was unsafe and had to go.

Our view is ruined now.

GET THIS - found out today, THEY CHOOPED DOWN THE WRONG TREE. should have been a diseased silver birch 3 houses down.

My poor 4 year old daughter was crying her eyes out when they were chopping it down as well.

What on earth can we do to make sure the incompetane fools make amends, I mean how can you mix the 2 tree types up?

Update:

Of course I meant Chopped, not Chooped - spell checker allowed it - didn't know it was a valid word

Update 2:

Local paper! - cracking idea I'll do that I think - after they try and explain themselves, and "no" they don't use a tree surgeon, or even a sub-contractor, it was a council worker.

I remember when I was 7 or 8 the town was going to tear down this gigantic tree that all the kids played around and climbed up, because it was "in the way". All the kids came out for 3 days and camped under the tree. We hung out on the branches and its base and refused to move. A few adults came too. Ultimately we got to keep the tree! We were all so happy, It's still there now.

So I know what you mean when a tree is so beautiful and you grow a liking to it, then someone wants to go cut it down. I understand how awful that must have felt. I say tell them off. Also, plant another tree in it's honour!

    Wow!

You poor things....I would be so upset about the whole deal too.

Is this not destruction of public property?

I would find out when next city council meeting is scheduled and let them know this "mistake" will not be tolerated.

....do you have a picture of your tree? Otherwise get a picture off internet.Take a picture of tree they were supposed to cut down....show them the difference and how ignorant they idiot was that cut it down. Also ask around....see if this has happened before.

Secondly....I would price a new tree and give the council the bill to replace the old one. I know nothing can replace a established tree. But replanting a new tree may bring some closure for your daughter's sake.

Again....I am sorry to hear of your family's torment.

I would post I sign it the front yard in protest for all to see. I would also request a copy of the work order and attend the next council meeting and air this out then. The poor action has hurt the property value and your family. But if its a parkway tree or a tree on association property you need to get over it. Focus you energy on the forests that are being raped daily around the world. That's our children's future but we just let the trees keep falling. I am glad I wont have to seen this planet once its done being raped.

Let's get EVEN! That P*sses me off.

Do You have pictures of the tree before and get some of after.

Call your local TV channel and tell them. Trust me they'll come out . Call the city council members

    Call the mayor

    Call the News Papers

    Call the City Attorney

In fact call anybody that is of any importance that can help.

    Call your local forestry service

(who knows it might have been on the endangered species list)

Then you have the option of contacting your state to file a consumer complaint.

If I were the city I'd buy a new well developed tree to at least try to compensate your loss.

I don't know where you live but here is a page of URLS to show you what is available.

    http://search.yahoo.com/search?search=filing+a+com...

I'm from Missouri and anytime a business want's to mess with me and my money they can rest assured they will be hearing from the Attorney Generals Office. That's like sticking dynamite in the south end of them.

I send my sympathies to you for the incompentence that you have had to deal with.

    Good Luck!

You should definately go to the town offices and find out who to file a complaint with. At the very least, they should replace the tree with the largest specimen available. Don't go in "loaded for bear" though, you need to be very level-headed and reasonable. If you have a personal relationship with an attorney, I'd contact them and get some advice. Also, call your local garden center or arborist, so that before you go, you have knowledege both of what is actually available for a replacement (probably the biggest will be one with a 4" caliper trunk - not nearly as large as the tree they removed, but quite a large tree), and also try to find out the actual value of the tree as a landscape specimen. This is based on that trees contribution to your property value.

shouldn't the people cutting down the tree know the difference between a cherry tree and a diseased silver birch? It sounds like they were very professional or know what they were doing. You should talk to the town or city officials or something I think and get a new tree planted.

YUP YUP we're about to landscape our home ...We have an acre of yard around our home...We are about to start planting alot of trees..starting with privacy trees and a nice weeping willow and couple Bradford pear trees and a group in the garden with one peach, plum, cherry, crab apple tree....

Lots of fun ..HOWEVER we do have parameters the city utilitiy companies have to be able have access to... Many of our homes side yards have to be accessable for the utility crews to able to work on power lines along the valley.... So I understand the frustration of how a town council can literally saw obstructive trees down...especially if it blocks the city maintenance departments from accessing the areas they are sent out to work on.....

So sorry to hear they chopped down the wrong tree..be glad though because one of our neighbors got fed up with kids running thru his side yard on the power line side so he put up a fence that extended into the utility line area..Rumor control in the neighborhood said that mans fence can be bulldozed down if it interferes with city maintenance in our area...

Bad isn't it?I liked the view of straight lines of various flowers on the backyard of my grandma's house. She always took care of it carefully and it looked really beautiful.I was really young so i can't remember really well. All i know that a man said that he had to chop the trees out.By the way if they keep doing this,it's their fault because they are causing dangerous symptoms like global warming and more weird phenomena.

dont just call , go to the next council meeting and demand a full apology and a re-planting of the same type of tree...get the press involved and all the neighbors you can...
