no surgery is needed i dislocated my thumb popped it back into place and its fine, i get problems with my thumb i just have to deal with it. You will most likely have artheritis in your shoulder later on in life but for now i would just ignore it ... however if you are REALLY worried then go to your local doctors surgery they can have a look at it or refur you to a specialist.

    I hope i have helped :)

When you dislocated it before it must have popped back in on it's own. That is usually what happens the first time. It is a case of soft tissue damage and tendon damage. The tendons become stretched and weakened and you should have been given exercises to strengthen the surrounding shoulder muscles so the tendons can heal themselves. Soft tissue injuries take a long time to heal and it would have meant time in a sling or chest band support system for that to happen in the fastest way possible.

You are still dealing with a weakened joint in your shoulder so you have to be careful about not overdoing it when playing sports or working with lifting, shoveling, raking and such. It helps to take an antinflamitory before you work the joint to decrease the pain and stiffness afterwards and I don't know if any physical therapy will really help at this late date.

Unless it pops out, or has popped out repeatedly and won't stay in place there is no reason to have surgery.
