Aquarium for clownfish?
My son loves Nemo and he loves looking at all the fish when we go to the store. His birthday is coming up and I was looking online for ideas then I thought fish tank. Well I found a really cute little fish tank/kit and then was thinking all I have ever had was goldfish. So basically is there a certain size I need for a clownfish? What all do I need for it that kind of stuff. I don't want to kill it the first day he gets it. This is what I was looking at. That and a 2.5 gallon but figured they might be to small.

Or should I just get a few small fsh or a goldfish and maybe that tank? He is only 2 and know he would like any fish he just looooves Nemo. Thanks everyone.

hello,
clownfishes require a saltwater tank and those are a bit more complicated than your normal goldfish tank.
a 2.5 gallon imho would be way too small and even a 5 or 10 gallon would be also. well..10 gallon would be okay but you're talking about just having one clownfish in there.
honestly he's only 2 and i'm going to say you're going to be the one taking care of it so i would start out with a freshwater tank as it'll be less expensive and less work involve. and then get him a nemo stuff animal also! =)

If you intend to keep an ocellaris or percula clownfish ("Nemo"), you need AT LEAST 20 gallons if it's going to be healthy and happy.
This is also a saltwater fish, so you'll have to put in extra effort and be extra patient with set up and cycling of the tank.
You need to purchase the tank, substrate, filter (protein skimmer would be good, too), heater, hood/light fixture, test kit, salt mix, and hydrometer. Some live rock wouldn't be a bad idea, either, as it will add to the biological filtration.
The tank will have to cycle (can take 6+ weeks to fully cycle a tank) before you add the fish.
Goldfish and small tank do not belong in the same sentence. "Starter" tanks are often sold and marketed for use with goldfish, but this is a bad situation for the goldfish. Goldfish grow very large and require large aquariums with ample filtration. Depending on the variety, an adult goldfish will be 8-14 inches in length. This is far more than small aquariums can handle. One common goldfish will need a minimum of 30 gallons as an adult.

clownfish are saltwater, a good quality set up for a pair of clowns starts at around $500, and you would have to do a good few months research on keeping marine fish!
that tank is freshwater only, in a 5 gallon like that i'd recommend a betta, they come in lots of colours, stay small, and go well in those minibows, make sure you add a heater (25w or 50w) as bettas are tropical.
it's far too small for a goldfish, they need 20 gallons just for the one and grow to a minimum of 8" excluding tail. they need pretty heavy duty filtration.
have a look at the link below with regard to setting up a tank, it's more complicated than just adding water and fish!

You would be better just sticking to goldfish or tropical for his first tank, a marine tank is very expensive to set up and requires a lot of maintenance, a clown fish needs a minimum of 20 gallons, plus the tank needs to mature before you introduce a fish, leave the marine fish till you have some experience with fish keeping, maybe for another birthday.

Hi!!
If your going to get that tank, then I would buy small fishes. Like the one of that picture. Getting small fishes are better anyways. You can get like 5 of them. Goldfish your only able to get 2 I believe in that type of size tank. ( Just a thought )
Say Happy B-Day to your son!!!!
