I want to move it to another room. Sorry I am so computer illerate, but the moving furniture bug has bitten me, and I am afraid to loose whatever the heck is in my computer. I have moved everything else, and it is TIME to move the desk and all the trimmings. Need answer asap before I do something horrible to the darn thing. Patience is NOT one on my long suits when in this mode. Thanks..Granny

No, it'll be fine just remember where you unplugged the wires so you can plug them back into the correct place.

As log as you save any files you were working on, you may shut down the computer, unplug it and relocate it without fear of losing data. You may want to take a look at each plug and it's outlet (on the computer) before you dismantle the wiring. Most computers have color-coded wire ends and "outlets" so that you can easily reassemble them. Take a picture if you need to.

Just do your best not to drop or drag any part of the computer in the process. Most of them are fairly durable, but why chance it?

    Seriously?

Computer hard drives don't need power to keep their information. The only thing that loses information when it powers off is RAM. However, anything in ram that you need will be saved to the hard drive at shut down.

Make sure you PROPERLY shut down the computer so anything your working on can be saved. Then unplug it, move it, plug it back in, and boot it back up.

Moving the computer doesn't affect what's inside it. As long as you remember to return all the cables and wires and plugs to their original places, it'll be fine.

Sure. Just make sure the computer is completely off before you unplug it and move it. And don't forget which plug goes where!

Not a problem at all. The information in stored inside the computer.. you can unplug it and haul it across the country if you like...

When you plug it back in, it will still all be there.

yes, you should be able to move it without losing all the information that's saved on it.

Just remember to put all the cables back in the same places you took them out of when you reassemble it and you should be fine.

Power it down (turn it off) before you start disconnecting things though

Yes, you'll be fine. Just tag, or somehow mark, where things were plugged in so you don't get confused hooking it back up.
