Why is there so much "Glock hate" out there?

With their extremely high reputation of quality, and their low cost, what gives?

Glocks are quality-made, reliable handguns with a few flaws.

When you point out the flaws, you get people saying you 'hate' them. I don't hate them, it's just they are not a gun that lives up to their sizable reputation. Is it the gun's or the company's fault that some people make them larger-than-life? No, but it's reality.

Also, whenever some poster comes here and asks "What kind of pistol.......?", at least 5 uninformed answerers will jump on and say "Glock" because they saw one in a video game. That's the kind of stuff I hate.

Is there really Glock hate? I hadn't heard that. I know the cops around here carry them.

Actually I did have trouble with a Glock. I bought the fairly new .45 ACP small pistol - held 5 or 6 rounds - something like that. I figured that was a good forever gun. Well.... it jammed! It never would jam consistently. I had two other clips - it jammed on all the clips - usually the 2nd or 3rd round in.

But it wouldn't jam all the time. I can't carry anything like that so I sold it. Let's hope the next guy never fires the thing. Lots of guns sit in drawers for 100 years and nobody shoots them.

Anyway - I was quite surprised by that because Glock does have this HUGE reputation. But I'd never buy another.

I have found Gun Nirvana with S&W .357 revolver. It's a tiny little thing which carries concealed very nicely with a bullet big enough to stand up to a bear! Also, the hammer is covered so it doesn't hang up in my cloths. Nice. That's my last gun. Drunk or sober, tired or wounded, you always know how a revolver works. It's idiot proof.

it's not hatred. I think glocks are "interesting". I've even been to their armorers schools. BUT, they have a flaw. Lack of safety. If glock offered them with an additional frame mounted safety, they'd have a top notch, high selling pistol. Too many people have been injured, or had the firearm discharge when not intended because in high stress situations, they place a finger on the "safe action trigger" and fire the pistol when not intending too. Adding the stiffer "new york triggerspring" will help, but not alleviate the problem. Other than that, I really like them, but would never recomend them to a new, or in experienced shooter.

Look, I think Glock makes a fine gun. I also think that H&K, Beretta, Smith, and a few others also make fine guns.

Many glock loves love ONLY glock and repeatedly tell you that glock is miles and miles beyond all other guns, and that all other manufatureres should just stop making their guns and leave the world for Glock. That is what I find annoying.

"yea, I went to my car the other day and it wouldn't start, battery was dead, but luckily I carry a Glock and was able to jumpstart my car from my Glock's uberness"

    That attitude causes backlash.

Whenever someone puts something on a pedastel as perfect, people cheer when it falls off. We all cheer whenever anothert Glock in 45GAP blows up.

Glocks are ugly matte black and boxy. (Beauty is in the eye of the beholder).

The frames are made of plastic. (Because of this the media mistakenly proclaimed that Glocks could be used to defeat metal detectors. Also, some shooters are turned off by the use of plastic and prefer to have "all-steel" guns)

The lack of external safeties poses a safety risk. (Why this isn't mentioned regarding double action revolvers escapes me).

The trigger has too much build up and creep. (Can't argue with this, sometimes takes a little practice).

People who proclaim their love for Glocks are irritating. (Sorry, guilty as charged).

What you call Glock hate is more self important Glock owner hate

The guns are good but have their flaws and are nowhere near as great as those owners that feel the need to justify paying $500 for a gun that cost about $100 to manufacture by using every opportunity to sing the praises of their plastic pistol claim they are

Glocks are designed all most flawlessly and they're extremely reliable especially for that amount of money. I hate them. The grips are so akward i feel like i'm holding a block of wood. Lack of safety is another issue. The irony is they call glocks "safe action" pistols and yet they have like a 5.5 lb. trigger pull with no safety and no trigger pull heavier than 5.5 without changing the spring. Despite my 1st sentence... not for me.

Ignorance, mostly. No one I know who has actually tried a Glock continues bad mouthing it. It is easy to say, 'they're ugly; they're Tupperware guns; or they're just plastic.' Remember, they used to call the M-16 the Mattel Toy rifle!

I had a hard time becoming a Glock man as I was a firm believer in steel forever. So when I had to put my Colt Python up in favor of a semi-loader because my department insisted that I needed more ammo capacity 'just-in-case,' I picked the Glock Model 20 10mm because I didn't want to go down in my basic power base. The .357 Sig and .40 S&W were yet to make the scene. With the big Glock fitting my hand perfectly it became quite obvious to me that we made a perfect match. I've always liked big caliber guns anyway. And so that continues to be my duty carry weapon.

Every thing you buy has its pros and cons, the important thing is you buy what is best for you and don't worry about what others say. My wife has a glock 26, I have xd. They are both good guns or I would not have bought either. Some like the balance of the colt single action revlovers, I like the rugers better because they can handle a heavier handload. If you like the glock and it suites your needs, then you have selected the best firearm for you.

    Happy and safe shooting !!!
