So many refer to Obama as possibly the "first black president".?
Don't people realize that he is also half white (mother)? Why no mention of that? Or don't we talk about that.
Good answers so far. I agree. Black, white, yellow, red, green...so what. Just wondering why the media (both lib and con) haven't mentioned much about it. Usually the opposition media jumps on controversy.

It goes back to the culture of the U.S. in its past... When the U.S. discriminated and judged people only on race they discovered a very difficult technicality....
What if they were mulatto (half white)? Well along with the Jim Crow laws they created the One Drop Rule. Which basically said that if a white person has one drop of black in them....that means there black. It was made to make it easier to figure out. Whether you yourself were mixed or your grandfather happened to be black. Any black in you and you were black. It was a rule to discourage whites from dating blacks, so they wouldnt make life harder for their future children.
Its sad we still kind of go by this rule in the U.S. But also a lot of mixed people usually identify themselves with one culture. Early on in there childhood they tend to choose sides. Basically Obama identifies himself as being a black man. In alot of his speeches and public speaking he calls himself black. Ultimately thats the biggest reason. Whatever a person considers himself everybody will go along with that.
But yes technically he is the first mixed president. But does it matter? No. If he was white I would still vote for him

Well yes I know Sen. Obama is half black, and he is half white. But if you look at the facts, Sen Obama has the skin, hair, and eyes, of a black person.
If Sen. Obama were pulled over by the police, or a wanted for bullentin were to go out with his picture on it. The police, and everyone who sees that picture would say that's a "Black Man".
We're looking at the the outside of Sen Obama, and it has always been that way.
Sen. Obama two hundred years ago, would not be consider half white. He'd be a house.................., because of his yellowish skin. In the end two hundred years ago, if he got out of line, he'd be treated like a black man, and not like a white man.
So the question isn't how come no one is talking about him being half white? It's is how come, he can never been treated half white.
That's a black man on the bullentin, and that's a black man being pulled over, and it will always be this way.

the term for half black, half white is "mulatto." funny the stupid journalists have not used that term. or is it so funny?
it's pretty well known--because this term is discussed endlessly in college sociology classes--that both whites and blacks hate mulattos. what difference does it make? who cares?
every human being is born with 46 chromosomes per cell. even if reds combine with yellow, and so on (who are still
called "mulattos"), their children are born with 46 chromosomes per cell.
so, what is the point? should you vote for or against barry because he is "black," or because his mother was "white," or because he is a "mulatto?" why would you do that?

ok the color doesnt matter at all. What matters is what he stands for. He wont salute our flag and he didnt swear on the Bible he sworn on the freakin koran. He is muslim descendent. Why do we want some one like that as president. We need someone who will run this country like the founding fathers made it to be

I don't really care what color was his mother. He is a racist in 2 colors.
And you can't denounce 20 years of believes, unless you are hypocrite.
He was conveniently absent at every sermon this reverend of his done condemning USA.
Just like he is always absent when any important decision have to be made in congress.
Give me a brake. How ignorant dose he think we all are?

good point isnt it strange that him being black is all over but you never hear of him being half white...i was wondering when his pastor said obama knows what it is to be a black man living in a white world....didnt he realise obama is half white....i think its time for him to go away with his tail between his legs......

To me, it is not threatening, it is simply now not thoroughly actual. If anyone is white and black, and so they say they're black, it is just about like disowning the white side of you, and vice versa. See whilst Hale Berry does it, it isn't important cuz she isn't representing this nation, she's simply an actress. Barrack can be our president, that is why folks are involved. I nonetheless like him greater than some other applicants accordingly a long way, the race factor is not the backside line in my determining component.
