Changing My OS from home to Pro?

well i just got a new pc, and since ic ant use my old OS here, im gonna be buying xp pro... now the question is, this new computer has not much stuff installed so far, and before i install teh drivers and what not iw ant to know if my files are gonna be erased when i upgrade from home to xp.

well i just got this new comp up and running, and there basicaly nothing on the hdd right now... and i just formatted it when i installed home and yes it's installed on my old comp, i'll try and burn my files

    i see no reason why you cant use xp home on another computer as long as you are not using it on two computers at the same time(you will have to call in the activation though)... and your files should not be erased IF you do not format over your hd(install to the current partition you are using for xp home) and you rename the folders windows, documents and settings, and programs... your programs will be uninstaller if you do this though. see if you can get a hold of an upgrade instead of a full version if you dont want to do a complete install...

    yes, I would back up your home either by partitioning a seperate drive and moving valuable files to that partition or burning to disk because your probably going to want to do a complete format during installation of pro which will erase all data on the drive. If you make a separate drive then you can use it for storage and backup once you have your new system up and running.
