it's not about tightness, it is about how long you stop the flow of blood before letting it start. They are working on general guidance of pumping it up 20-40 points beyond where they heard the last audible heart beat. it also depends on how slowly they bring it down. I actually like the machines, they bring it down at a very regular pace and that keeps the control constant. 150/110 is not good, that is hypertension.

Actually, there is a big difference. Also there is a difference between the manual ones and the automatic ones. I always come up very very high on automatic ones and they squeeze so tight, on the manual ones I usually come down to a normal range but if they do it so tight it actually hurts then it's usually higher. I had 3 doctors freaking out because my blood pressure was "high" while I was pregnant, and when they finally got a competent nurse in the room who knew what she was doing, she checked it and she had the cuff on for about 3 minutes doing it very slowly and letting the air out slow... she told them to all relax because my blood pressure was fine... they were just too preoccupied to realize it. They were rushing basically.

The systolic and diastolic pressures are not affected by how tight the cuff is. The person taking the pressure reading can tell the difference between the systole and diastole if the cuff starts out snug.
I always pumped it up until the patient grimaced a little.

It doesn't matter how tight it is on your arm, it's how long you stop the blood from flowing. I really like the way it tightens on your arm and have bought my own and play with the tightness and stuff. I sometimes go to sleep with it on repeat and it soothes me to sleep. I know I'm weird
