Question About Stroke?
My fiance's father had a stroke Thursday night (about 36 hours ago) and he's still in ICU. His entire left side went numb and he was in the hospital one minute later. His top number for blood pressure was 293...it's stabilized now in the 180's. I know he has fluid in his brain and they've been doing tests every couple hours (cat scans, CT's, etc) to see if he needs surgery. I know he hasn't eaten since Thursday and he's complaining he's hungry.
I don't know much at all about strokes or high blood pressure. Could someone tell me what to expect from this scenario? He's been awake and alert (even though he's doped up on medicine), but he's still in ICU....
I want to think everything will be ok, because my thinking is that if something worse would have happened, it would have happened already, but like I said, I have no experience with strokes and he's still in the ICU....
Can anyone tell me what to expect from here? Can he get worse in the hospital? What can happen?
some backgroung: he's a smoker, not overweight, but has lots of stress; used to be an alcoholic, but been sober in AA for 5 years; around 55 years old
Just any words would help good or bad....I feel kinda naive in thinking he'll be fine because it happened almost 2 days ago and don't know if it can get worse....It also just worries me in the ICU....can it still get worse?
I guess I'm asking more if there's a chance something else can happen while he's in the hospital....can he enter a coma? What can the fluid cause?
His speech and movement seem to be ok....he was practicing moving his left hand and it seems to be pretty good...not 100%...more like 75% or something in that area......
Can something more happen in the hospital though that would cause his condition to get worse? Is it likely he'll have another stroke or go into a coma or soemthing WHILE he's there in the next couple days?

through powerband, 2 strokes, for my area are greater exciting topersistent, yet, you are able to result going swifter on the RMz. the rmz is a torque-y bike and the YZ is screamin useful 2 stroke. if its exciting and speed, how you are able to journey the two stroke to its finished skill. 2 strokes prefer greater oftentimes upkeep, yet each now after which you will could substitute the piston in a 4 stroke and replace the valves.. and thats high priced! YZ 250 appropriate end kit is barely approximately one hundred fifty with gaskets and all. in case you prefer rapid.. (many human beings would call me loopy for suggesting this) get a cr500. .... interior the top the rmz may well be swifter yet its additionally a count of opinion and using form which could impact your lap situations plenty. if so, i'd pass with the YZ250. if your no longer constrained via the displacement (ie a hundred twenty five, 250 or open type) get the YZ and in case you prefer greater speed you may get a great bore 285cc kit which will relatively make the bike fly. inspite of the shown fact that, there are greater zippy 4 strokes than the rmz for my area. The CRF450 packs a attractive end punch to be envied. yet proscribing it to the motorcycles you have displayed, i'd take the YZ.

It would be easy to say "don't worry." However with the proper rehabilitation, he may come back to almost where he was before. This is going to take time and patience, and love on the part of all the people concerned. The immediate worry is the fluid buildup on the brain, and how it is handled. After that they will start testing to see the extent of his impairment, and then to see what can be done.

no absolute answer here....wait and see is not the answer you want, but that is why he is being so closely monitored in the ICU...so if something worse begins to happen, and yes it may, the ICU staff can quickly assess what is going on and take action...it is a good sign that he has been stabilized at this point...
