What is a witch? How do I define and explore my talents?
A relative recently told someone I'm a Pagan witch and I have no idea why. She seems to have meant it as an insult (she's a bible-thumper), but I didn't take it that way. Her comment just got me thinking. I've always been curious about Paganism but I know next to nothing about it, nor do I know anything about witches outside of "examples" in the media.
I have psychic abilities, especially regarding how people are truly feeling. I can sense energy and often I know more than I should about a person. Sometimes, I can get a feel for a person, or a flash about them, by holding an object that belongs to them. I can sense entities around me, and their intent, and sometimes I even see them. I get pictures in my head, flashes of events, that often come true. Sometimes I hear things or smell things that I can't explain.
I’ve been able to help heal emotional and physical wounds with my energy and my hands. My friends thought I was full of bull until they saw it for themselves.
I'm often very good with tarot cards, but sometimes I just get gibberish. Either I'm dead on, or WAY off. I have no control over it. Healing is the only gift over which I have any control. The others come and go as they please. How do I define what I can do and how can I gain more control over my talents?
Morton, you clearly didn't read the entire question and I really don't appreciate your sarcasm. I'm asking an honest question.
I don't know who you worship, but my God doesn't consider any of His children an abomination. I would never try to profit from my talents, I just want to develop them. I HAVE read the bible.
I'm not psycho, nor am I open to demons. There are ways to prevent attack from negative entities. Anyone open-minded enough to do some research would be aware of that. Just because you don't understand something doesn't mean it's wrong. People used to think the earth was flat, too.
I expected that some of you would admonish me to find God (even though I already have) and I even expected that some of you would think I'm crazy. People are often quick to judge things they don't understand. However, I didn't anticipate so many hateful responses from people who claim to be Christians. Jesus taught by loving example, not by ridiculing, condeming or criticizing. Only one user expressed a differing viewpoint with respect and truly kind intentions. Thank you, Frugal, for not jumping on the bashing bandwagon even though our opinions differ.

As an initiated and practising witch - although the term means different things to different people - I can understand all that you have said. Witchcraft is, as the name says, a craft. It is NOT a religion requiring that you conform to a specific dogma unthinkingly, as most Christians (at least here) seem to do. As a witch you are free to experiment, to enquire, to ask "why" and "how", and to use your skills for the benefit of others. The only caution I will give you is to remember that all you do, every act, even thought, comes back to you some way sometime.
I suggest that, as a sensible start, you try to find a copy of "Positive Magic" by Marion Weinstein. I don't have the ISBN details as my copy is with a friend in outback Australia at the moment, but Amazon.com would be a good place to start. Look for the second edition published in 2002. She mentions Quantum physics for the first time. Interesting,
This is the most down-to-Earth, practical book on finding and using your true potential. I live by its concepts of care and Love - for all living things. . . .and I question the definition of "living" frequently.
Living The Craft is a joyful and rewarding way to live, and I try to do just that. I fail sometimes, like we all do, and stir up people something awful at times, but that is only to help them think. So enjoy your difference, use it for the betterment of everyone, and Love Life, Laugh a lot, and Live!
"Blessed Be" is the old form of blessing, and the one I frequently use to people I respect. I give it to you now.

All the things you mentioned, to me, aren't strictly Pagan or Witch stuff. I know christians that do those things also. Have you checked out Witchvox.com? You might be able to find people in your area that you can talk with. Sometimes it helps you to open up to others with the same beliefs. You may run across someone who will be willing to help y ou.
The abilities that you say come and go, just work with them. Read cards for friends and tell them you are just practicing. The same with your empathic abilities. Psychometry is something else that you can practice. Just get friends to let you read objects they have. Be careful about reading people deeply, it can be offensive to those who feel you doing it. They could even take it as an attack.
I hope that helps.
Oh and ignore the fear mongers.

As usual, the search for "truth" seems to always get directed toward, and is thought to durive from the endo-European side of things. This is what the word "Witch" emplies. Instead, I perfer to use a word that comes from traditions much older than witch or pagan and is, at least from a Spiritualist perspective, non-Western; Shaman/ism! I suggest you investigate systems which predate notions of Western ocult (Dictionary meaning here and not the durrisive religious notion) practices as found in Shamanism.

Paganism is merely an umbrella for a lot of diverse belief structures that are non-christian. Many of these structures are way older than christianity, and actually contain the roots that christianity came from. Being a witch only means that you seek knowledge, understanding and wisdom. It also means that you have the ability to live from your own will power, hence the Rede; if it harm none, do as you will. Whcih doesn't mean do as you want, but to live from your will power. Good Luck, and Blessed Be.

I would say start reading some books taht explain the basics of "witchs" their are many...
Next I would seek out an organized Coven. There you can get validation and assistance, which willhelp you grow and understand your talents.
Good Luck

Sounds to me like you're already on the right path:)
Study is paramount. Most bookstores have a "new age" section and most cities have pagan shops. Witchvox.com is a good website too.
Good luck and Blessed be.

If you are already dabbling in the occult, and inviting demons in...then yes, you would have these special 'talents'... they like to use willing people.
The thing that I was most interested in, was that you said that you don't have control over it... that means... that you aren't in control and that a demon is.
So, it depends how far you want to take this. It can get to the point that the demon, brings in more demons, you think you are getting more talents, and you are actually getting drained.
They will use you, abuse you and may or may not leave you...but they don't care and will hurt you.
Just thought you should have the information from all sides here, I am not in any way judging you... I am just giving you info for your consideration.

Do you actually want to persue these abilities, There are alot of parsea scools to sharpen these abilities , but just keep in mind ,{ through my own exp.} you are considered an abomination in the LORD's eyes .. if you persue your fortune using this gift... If you dont know what I'm speaking of maybe the first thing to do is is to protect ones self by reading the bible...Next , I would get a couple of books ,as i dont know where you are .. I know of a place in INDIANA that would help you..

That's awesome. I can somewhat heal physical wounds with my hands, but I am practicing, along with reading auras. But being a pagan witch is nothing bad, if it is what you are than that is awesome. I am a wiccan, but at this moment, 1:00am, I wouldn't be able to explain properly how to practice and better your skills.

You are describing symptoms of schizoid delusional mental disorders dear.
I suggest that you talk about what you are experiencing to a psychiatrist without delay. You can find one at the ER unit near you probably.
It is interesting to note that bible thumpers often have similar symptoms but different delusions. Delusional people usually get upset when they meet people that don't pretend to have the same delusions.
