There are several different techniques a user can do to help improve his or her typing skills. Below is a short list of different ideas and recommendations you can do to help improve your typing. Keep in mind that most people are not going to be able to improve their typing speed overnight.

    Type more and practice

Starting off with the most obvious, simply typing and practicing typing more will obviously help the most. The more you type the more familiar you will become with the computer keyboard and the position of the keys.

When practicing keep some of the below things in mind.

Learn to type the proper way (no typing with one or two fingers). This means your fingers should be on the home row keys A,S,D,and F with the left hand and J, K, L, and ; with the right hand. Of course if you're on a non-English keyboard or a non-QWERTY keyboard this may change.

Try not to look at the keyboard while typing. This is usually the hardest for most people, but is definitely a skill that should be learned. Not having to look at where the keys are on a keyboard can dramatically improve the speed of your typing. If you need help learning to not look at your hands try putting a large piece of paper over the keyboard that will allow your hands to fit under it without you being able to see the keys, or put stickers on each of the keys.

Make sure your posture at the computer is good. For example, sit in the upright position with both feet flat on the floor.

There are many ways to improve your typing speed. I have a typing speed of 174 Wpm and am really OK with it. So, here are the tips from the experts:

    1) Learn how to touch type. Close your eyes, and try to write the alphabet with no spaces.

    2) Once you have learned how to touch type then you need to learn your typing position. Place four fingers from your left on the keys 'asdf', and the right on 'JKL:'. This way, yuo will not have to cross fingers to type things.

    3) Some people to be honest just don't have it in them. So don't be upset if you can't do it, just some people can't.

    4) Try buying a lighter keyboard with light keys. This way you can type quicker and with heavy keys it's a lot harder to push down.

    I hope this tips worked...

I don't know about any software you can get, but you might be able to get typing books from your library and practice with that. This is what we used when I was in high school for typing class. Old fashioned, but it works. Since you probably know where all the letters are on your keyboard, try placing your 4 fingers on "home row", which is the middle row of letters on your keyboard. Start with your pinky on the letter 'A' , the next finger on 's' and so on. G & H should be left open. Your thumbs should be on the space bar. Keep these fingers on home row and only move them to the letters that are on that hands side. Now all you have to do is start typing. Open a word document on your computer and practice on that. It doesn't take long to pick up your pace if you know where all the letters are on your keyboard. Hope this helps.

Do you chat with friends online? Try talking to a bunch of friends online at the same time and have multiple conversations. This is how many young people build up their typing speed.
