One of my children had a similar issue. I kept track of the time he soiled his diaper for three days. You'll find it is close to the same time everyday. The fourth day grab a book or two, put your child on the potty and read. The child will be relaxed paying attention to the book and nature will take its course. Be sure to praise and show excitement for the job well done. It will take a few days of this to become a ritual. It worked for us...I hope it does for you too.

My son is 5 and still has some trouble with this. Dr. suggested eating fruits like plums and grapes. Add fiber to his meals in the form of whole grains and beans. Dr said to buy some Benefiber which can be added to anything and there is no taste or change in texture. I have used a childrens enema the night before my Sis. wedding so I wouldn't have to change soiled underwear all day. He does alot better now but his rectum is so stretched out that he has stool that is bigger than his fathers...YUK! Anyway, giving him Benefiber in his juice at the same time everyday will get him regular soon. I would make an appointment with the doctor, he will make sure that there isn't an obstruction and then will help you with a plan. My Dr said that it would take about 3 months to get his rectum working properly. Hope this helps you out a bit. I know it's hard to get through this.

Is he constipated or just ashamed to tell you he needs to go #2? If it is constipation, my doc prescribed my son Mirolax (its an OTC medication) to put in his juice. We have to put 4 teaspoons a day to keep him regulated. If he is just ashamed to tell you when he has to go....try sitting him down for a "big boy" talk and let him know its ok to tell you when he has to go. I hope this is a little helpful....

Is he getting enough fruit and fruit juices? Those will help keep him regulated without meds.
