He is a dog trainer/ host of a show called Dog whisper. Its played on the national geographic channel.

Personally I don't agree with everything he doe, theres alot that he does that could get someone in alot of trouble if they did themselves. Always consult a professional first before attempting to do anything you see him do.

    Consider yourself lucky.

As you know by now, he has a show on tv as well as his own business in L.A. The methods that he uses are outdated and can be downright dangerous. He brags about how many times he has been bitten while "training." I don't know about you, but I don't think I would hire a contractor who brags that 15 of his buildings have fallen down - why would someone take the advice of a trainer who doesn't know how to work safely with dogs?

If you want training and behavior info from the true "Dr. Spock" of dog training, get your hands on any book, article or dvd by Dr. Ian Dunbar. HE is the real deal.

  • Cesar Milan has a show on the National Geographic Channel on tv called The Dog Whisperer. He is a very charismatic man, the show is okay, and some people swear by his methods of dog training. Most think he is a fraud.

He operates a large canine rescue centre and behaviour/discipline/training school in Los Angeles, California. He also has a popular, internationally syndicated television show called "The Dog Whisperer" ( Even though he's not a true animal whisperer, in the true sense of the term - he's actually just a canine behaviour specialist.)

In his T.V. show, every week, he visits the homes of real people, with real dogs who possess real behaviour problems. The show documents him working with the owners of the animals to treat their problems. The results are often dramatic.

Cesar Millan is not a trainer, first of all. He works on the principles of dog psychology and helps "humans" learn how to become "the leader of the pack." His show, The Dog Whisperer, is on The National Geographic Channel and films his cases and their progress.

His methods vary but they remain the same on the simple levels: Dogs need a leader to guide them and correct them. You need to stay calm and assertive when working with your dog, so that they don't feed off of your nervous, fearful, excited, angry energy. Dogs need exercise, discipline, and affection in that order so they can become calm and submissive to you.

There are many more things that he suggests to help with problematic dogs but the best place to find out about those is his website; http://www.cesarmillaninc.com/

I myself use a lot of his methods and found that they work. Methods such as you controlling the walk, you controlling where they are allowed to go in your home, correcting them consistently when they misbehave.. these methods help out a lot.

However some of his method need to be saved for the professionals. I would not suggest someone with an aggressive dog PIN them to the floor to assert dominance, nor would i suggest hard leash pops to correct a dog. (If you notice, all you people whoa aren't fans of leash popping, he only does it hard enough to get their attention and it does not hurt them. It's when you yank on it so hard that they go flying or get jerked around that makes it horrible...)

I combine obedience work with his methods (controlled walks, me leading them, small leash pops or taps on the neck or flank, calm and assertive energy and tones, exercise then discipline then affection, etc) and my dogs, and my aunt's aggressive dog, respond well to me because of it.

Watch the show or visit his site to learn more. His methods may not be the right thing for you or your dog, so before committing to them do your research on trainers and behaviorists in your town.

He is a dog trainer with a show on discovery channel. He teaches with a "pack leader" method.

He has a recipe~ exercise, disipline, affection.

He is very good at rehibilitating dogs, but I don't like all of his methods. Some are okay.
