When people say America was founded on Christian principles, do they mean invasion, genocide and slavery?

I didn't see them in the Bible.

You must have skipped through a lot of pages because those principles are clearly marked in the Bible.

Ok Listen ... Slavery is not a Christian principle, in fact it has nothing to do with religion, as you could find it in every religion. People those days did not see it morally wrong to enslave other men, and yes America ( just like Australia ) is founded on Christian principles, and it's gonna remain like that. I do not know if you are of Islamic faith, but too many Muslims these days question my countries ( Australia ) principles, and I am getting sick of it. You should be happy Australia has welcoed you in the first place an embrace these new freedoms , instead of what happens - you start foul mouthing the country in order to try and spread your ideologies. If you don't wanna fit into the society then leave, you have no right to try to change anything.

the christians were at the forefront of the anti-slavery movement in this country. St. Patrick was almost single handedly responsible for eliminating slavery in Ireland in the 400s. Genocide is not a Christian principle. Self-defense is. The church did NOT run the cavalry, by the way. Immigration *legally* is allowed by all countries and the Europeans legally immigrated to North America and were accepted by the inhabitants. Invasion is a very strong and biased word.

Invasion, genocide, and slavery are not Christian principles. By Christian you are necessarily implying a New Testament reading which advocates quite strongly, "Love thy neighbor as thyself." This completely contradicts any teaching of a person of different race, or whatever factor may be used, as being a lesser person. In the times which the Old Testament was recorded there were certain practices commanded by God in order to rid the land of its many pagan, false gods, worship. These "gods" were worthless and caused a seperation from the Lord for all who worshipped and thus could not be allowed to remain.

Considering that many of the principles commonly associated with our system of government are NOT unique to - or in some cases exclusive of - Christianity, I'd have to think that they could very well mean invasion, genocide and slavery. We certainly have all those things in our glorious history - but then again so does everyone else.

I agree with benji, but I'll add: if you claim to have lived 25 years (or more or less) without screwing up something in some form, I'd call you a liar. Imagine 200+ years as a country. there are guaranteed to be some serious screw ups. Bits of the genocide thing preceded America. The "Trail of Tears" was ordered by T. Jefferson (the first Democratic president) he gave the order in VIOLATION of a supreme court order against it. (don't ask me why he wasn't charged criminally and tried for it, he was a scumbag anyway.)

Not technically. That is what they were hoping for, not what resulted.

The principles were freedom of religion. Ability to read the Bible. The Golden Rule of do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Business and moneymaking got in the way.

Slavery was lucrative, so not only blacks and Indians, but Chinese were abused. Not to mention any religion they didn't like.

So Mormons (who changed their teachings to serve politics and join military), and Jehovah's Witnesses (who refused politics and war) and others face persecution here too....even in the 1900s (JWs were banned and imprisoned), blacks were killed and not given equal rights, women were subjugated and mistreated.

Do NOT mistake human governments for God's government or kingdom. They will not produce the same results. Rev. 11:15, 18. Daniel 2:44. Acts 10:34, 35, 17:26, 27.

Of course they don't - but they also lie about the founding of America. No less than Thomas Jefferson stated, in writing, that America was in no way founded on Christian principles, nor those of any other religion.

No the freedom to worship a GOD or not worship a god. Freedom from state sponsored religion. at that time most people were understood to be Christian or at the very least deitist!!

It's interesting the things you mentioned are not even a Christian ideal but yet you put them on the CHRISTIAN's back!!

No, they are operating on misinformation that the founding fathers were Christian, they were deist. The big problem is that there are some liars out there and many folks are just too lazy to check out what the founding fathers said, so they accept what they would like to be true.

America was not founded on Christianity, the christian movement didn't start until the early 1800's. And In God we trust was not in until 1956. Eisenhower had one nation under God added to the pledge of legionce in 1954.
