When will this get heard?
I was wondering if and when Y!A will reply/respond to this?
http://suggestions.yahoo.com/detail/?prop=answers&...
Do suggestions ever get dealt with on here... has anyone read/seen any that have?
I'm just curious, seems that a lot of people agree with the situation, but will Y!A ever listen and help??
I couldn't imagine knowing about all of this (what goes on in this section) and having the ability to do something, but choosing to look the other way.
BUCK FUSG, I don't believe that to be true. All it might take is for ONE caring person who has the ability to do something. Not everyone is 100% money-driven when it comes to animal welfare.
Interesting point Jordan M.
I honestly thought that Yahoo had the ability to track users....
Xena, like you mentioned, you had pervs in chatrooms, can't these guys get found?
Dane, I see what you're saying. True, true.

I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. I honestly believe that people who don't know to take their dog to the vet if they are having seizures are seriously naive, and they NEED good people to write in all caps: GET TO THE VET. WHO CARES HOW MUCH IT COSTS. I like to think that when I do see people suggest going to the vet or discouraging someone from buying a pet if they are not financially ready, it IS doing something about the situation. I come from a culture that does not treat dogs as well as they do here in the US. Dogs in other cultures are fed and given shots. . . that's it. I'm hoping that Y!A is giving people a platform to become more knowledgeable about the needs of our pets, and changes this archaic way of treating animals.
Knows she's totally optimistic,

Source(s): I had to give away five dogs at different times of my childhood because my parents thought it was okay for a child (me at the time) to raise a puppy alone. I now have a little rescue pup of my own (I am a responsible adult now), and I plan to foster dogs when I'm off during the summer. - 1 decade ago
Well, what a good question being an animal welfare technician and vet nurse, I have already emailed yahoo to ask them if they would make me a point of contact for cruely treated or absued animals, I will travel and have the knowledge to deal with most of the nasty things that happen in this dreadful world I even said all would be confidentiol, but guess what I have not heard a dicky bird from them.
I am very dissapointed that I have not heard from them but I will still help anyone that has questions or worries, and I am sure others on this site would help us too. What do you think? with all good wishes A

How great would that be?
It takes very little to investigate a complaint. With the ISP and the text of the question, someone should be able to make a decision whether or not to investigate.
Sadly, Yahoo doesn't even monitor the reporting system they have. If you didn't see all my crap the other day, I've had a dozen violations from people I made angry because I pretty much told them they were commiting animal cruelty (or that they were just plain stupid), mainly the two women who wanted to euthanize/get rid of their puppies for being "aggressive" (play biting, 8 wk old puppy aggressive? WTF?). Several of my Qs have been removed for chatting, the last 2 vios were for "solicitation" which makes NO sense...
So I doubt that they will do anything. But it would be nice. We can hope.

Sadly, there is honestly nothing we can do. Many people don't give their real information/leave stuff out when signing up for yahoo. Also, though in cases like these it may seem wrong, people do have the right to their privacy on here. We have no real proof that they hit their dog, etc., just that they said they do in an online question. Since you can delete your questions, and I highly doubt yahoo keeps a record of all asked questions, we'd honestly have nothing to go on. So again, sadly, there's nothing we can do. Answers is a sort of window, through it we can seen the violence, but we are powerless to do anything.

I think Yahoo! is too big to care.
They are dealing with so many other things, I doubt they'll change the way people post on the Dogs Section.
It's a shame, and I wish it were different, but it may never be.
Sometimes I am just disgusted to the point where I want to cry because the people on here are SO ignorant.
I just got an email actually from someone who called me names because she doesn't think Pit Bull should exist.
Yahoo! Just can't control everything that goes on here.
I think we should be able to report those who are fools who refuse Vet care for a dying dog, breeding, etc. just like that person said.
I agree with you, Nekai, as always.

Sadly, Yahoo will do nothing, this is sad\
but the world is a cruel place and the animals are suffering for it...all we can do is try to help, one case at a time, unless its a multiple abuse case of the animals..
like the one in Arizona....they are gonna throw the book at those people...and throw away the keys when they get locked up.
I agree with most, it is a sad thing to have to hear and the thing is we cant do anything to help them, or even to track them down......
maybe one day, one day, people will learn, but I would not count on that.

While this is a huge concern, I don't think Yahoo is going to do anything about it. You can't save the world all at once, unfortunately. I'd also like to stop global warming, but it's not happening.
I don't blame you for being concerned, we all are. The most I can say is fix your doggie and go to the shelters when you want another happy addition. That's the best any of us can really do
Besides, a lot of sick people get on here daily and make up stories about how they abuse their animals. You can never tell if people are truthful on here, so just try and ignore it

Ok first off this is the first time I have heard of it. For a few weeks now I have been answering questions in the pets section and I haven't read anything with anyone abusing thier animal. I have not chose to look away from anything like this. However you have to understand that there is only so much Yahoo can do. Are you willing to give your full name and address whenever you sign up on Yahoo? And people can lie about that anyways, unless Yahoo did extencive background checks on people before you could join. Then no one would want to join!!
I read the link you posted and I agree with what this person said: right now I think the best way to combat ignorance on the owners part is to try to educated them on what they are doing is in fact Animal Abuse!
So if you want to help and not turn a blind eye then when you run across a question where a person is being abusive towards thier pet or anyone for that matter, say its abuse, tell them so. I have ran across questions where kids are being abused. Those people will go unreported unless someone they know IRL does something about it.
Its sad to say this is how the world is. I have learned to accept it, and try and make it the best I can when I come across these types of things. I always do the right thing when a situation arises.
Some of you people here also make up fake questions. How would Yahoo know if its a fake or real question? Someone could just be posting they are going to kill thier dog for attention. These are mostly just kids.
You seem like you are trying to make it sound like this should have a very simple solution. But this has many layers to it. And its very complicated. It really is out of Yahoo's hands, and after all Yahoo is providing you with this free service, and all you can do is complain and demand them to do something.
remember how thier used to be chat rooms where the users could make a chat room for others to join? Well they are gone now. Why? I had a little to do with it. I filed a complaint. I went into many chat rooms and there were tons of sexual preditors. I would put in 9/f/ca and I would get so many messages opened up my computer would crash. All pervs. Well Yahoo couldn't hunt the guys down, but they did help by stopping users from being able to make chat rooms to find kids in.
I feel if there was a way in Yahoo's power to do something about this they would. But there isn't. So the rest is up to you... and me for that matter. So when we come across those pet abuse / neglect questions we do something! Give the people advice, telling them they are abusing thier pet. If some are giving abusive answers then give them a thumbs down, and if the question is really bad, then report it!
I hope this insight has helped. Good Luck!!
ADDED: Honestly the only way they can track anyone is by thier IP address, then it is possible for them to alert thier ISP. However there are hackers who can use your internet connection. And there are open wireless "WiFi" connections. Internet can now be used on your cell phones. Etc. If they did find use thier IP to track them, there is no way they can be sure who did it. Or if the person who is paying for the service is the person who is actually doing it. As with the Pervs, they have cyber police who go and pretend to be a little boy or girl like I did that one day, and they start up conversations with them, they meet them and arrest them. Thats the procedure for tracking internet sexual preditors. This is an annoymious enviroment. Unless background checks are done, there really is no way to know who did what where, etc.
****You know, it takes more than simply finding someone IP address, there are legal avenues to follow for the protection of our privacy.
This is true, agreed.
Also I forgot to add you can change your IP frequiently, Phones change Ips everytime they are rebooted, anyone with dial up gets a different Ip everytime.

Sadly enough, I dont think Yahoo could could care less. This is their business. I dont even think there are people running it!
A perfect example is when an abuser sits at her computer all night long sending vile and threatening hate mails to everyone who told her to take a dying mom and the last living pup to the vet, while we all got slammed with violations for not answering the question?????
She sat there all night on her computer writing hate mails and let the dog and entire litter die.
Yeah, Yahoo doesnt care.

I don't know that it will and I think it is a disgrace. I often avoid this category for the very reasons you speak of. I get angry and sad, sometimes even feel ill reading about the neglect. I feel those animals suffering and can't stand that I am powerless to do anything about it. THANK YOU for trying to be heard on behalf of all of the animals in the world that are blessed to have you care and to fight for their rights- to be well cared for and loved.
