I liked pope John Paul. He reached out to the protestants.
The present pope is a divider. He causes friction between the churches.

I have a father in law who was strict Catholic. He was always at mass, never missed a day until the pedophile incident and as with many good Catholics fell away. I don't quite care for Catholicism would rather do ritual magick than religious ritual can't quite tell the difference in chants

I *loathe* Pope Benedict, so I guess I would like Pope John Paul II better (though I didn't like him as a Pope, either).

I haven't been thrilled about any pope since John XXIII. John Paul I might have been a possibility if he had lived beyond a month. But the current one is too dogmatic and mean-spirited, and his predecessor was too Mary-crazy.

Neither! They are/were both superstitious and irresponsible.
But I liked JP 2's Pope mobile.
