Wouldn't there be world peace if . . . ?
. . . people just behaved themselves -- or simply ignored those that annoy them?
Fighting over land, fighting over what "their" God said, persecuting those that are different -- why can't people just tend to their own affairs and simply avoid people they don't like?
There are some people [and kinds of people, like members of certain churches] that I really find annoying, but I would never go out of my way to make life difficult for them. Since we're no longer cave-dwellers who have to fight for actual survival, why do humans still have such capacity for needless hostility?

World peace is a bullsh*t myth that will only happen if the world gets hit by a meteor or some other catastrophe occurs because the only real peace is in the grave. Life is about struggle, competition for survival, change and growth - and there is nothing peaceful about it and there never will be.
I would like to see people evolve so they stop being so intolerant, cruel and excessively greedy and selfish and so that we really start applying the golden rule in every aspect of our lives - instead of the rule of gold - I don't know if that is likely either - but I will strive for it until the day I die and beyond if I can.
Right now, it seems to me that money is our god and too many of us still think force is the answer to everything - it's nice to know I'm not the only one who is sick of this and who realizes it is an evolutionary dead end.

Well said. But human nature is strong and often takes over, and is filled with many flaws that come out in numerous ways. It would be nice though if people could worry less and judge less what others are doing, and just take care of themselves and work on being a better person in their own families, their own lives. And as for wars and fighting, they have always been, and I'm sure they'll always be, and that is the sad reality.

Religious tolerance is needed. Just so long as nobody starts being a dictatorship and invading other peoples countries - or stealing their resources.
A country's own government should determine it's own resources - and how much they sell it for. If another country invades, puts a fence around the oilwells - then sells the oil for profit - I think there is something seriously wrong with that.
Regarding tolerance; My partner and I were walking down a highstreet - past a church group handing out flyers. My partner was wearing a pentagram teashirt. We smiled on the way past - but recieved "burn the witch" comments behind us.
We tolerate others. Why can't the same be applied to us?

Because you have stated the 'Human dilemna', which is being Human, with all the faults, fallacies, foofarah and humbug.
Aggression is Human nature...pretty well proven to be genetic. And handed down to us through a couple billion years. Even the earliest microbes had to have a way of defending themselves, or attacking those others who had evolved an 'attitude'. Nature. A blessing and a curse.

It's all about GREEEEED! At least where the USA is concerned. We're attacking people for their oil in most part. Bush keeps saying that we're trying to FREE people and introduce Democracy but what will his excuse be when we attack Iran? I can't wait to hear that one.
There are many excuses such as religion and the like but when you "Follow the Money" you will find the TRUE reason for all the chaos.

Peace y'all

That's the way we are...raised the kids that way too. I can't understand why everyone wants to fight all the time. For some it's probably the (hard, upper) drug culture...for other it may be the stresses involving juggling too many activities...it's just wrong! People need more rest and vacations in this stressful world.

I wish Buk was my big brother. One time in school, 3 bullies conspired to put me in the hospital with a concussion, 14 stitches to close the gash on my head, and the need for an SAE kit.

I agree.. but you know people are basically ignorant.. some want more than others and they will do nothing to stop what they want..I agree that people should ignore but some just cant stand not puttin their hands in the cookie jar ..a jar some should leave alone..I say live and let live..mind your own p's&q's .. I hate hostilty as much as the next person. We need to mend our own fences instead of going way outta our way to mend some one's elses..Good Q and thanks..

Dream on, m'dear. But people have been fighting others for as long as human beings existed... before organized religions.
We DO still need to fight for our survival... maybe not for the bread and butter on our tables, but for the right for our countries to exist. And the reasons for fighting don't always have to do with religion.
But it does have to do with man's sinful nature... OOPS!! Sorry... that's another category, isn't it? But mind you, when I say "sinful nature," I'm not talking about their religion. I won't go into this more, as I am sure you know what I am referring to.
In the meantime, go ahead and dream, and join Rodney King in his misguided plea of, "Can't we all just GET ALONG?"
Everyone is entitled to my opinion.

Once, when I was eight, Billy Mickelson from down the street punched my sister in the belly so I ambushed him at the bus stop and gave him 12 stitches to the back of his head.
