People who repair computers have barely enough time to fix the system and don't wander around on the hard drive looking for information or porn. I expect they would face a legal liability if they did as they might compromise personal information.

I do not fix computers except my own.
Never had a brand new computer until this one.
On old computers no porn on any computer from people who were successful and had good job and good salary.
On computers from garage or yard sale found all kinds of stuff I had to PAINSTAKINGLY delete, over vast periods of time.
Included porn urls.
Police will arrest person nowadays caught with computer having certain kinds of porn.
SO....IF you buy used computer, you better clean that thing up. Clues: the person you bought it from or garage or yard sale.
Only positive note, old computer FAR BETTER than no computer and very, very cheap.
Did not need to fix them to know that unfortunately there are lots of porn heads.
Some of them get caught when they take their computers to Geek Squad or whatever.
In earlier years some people also caught by having porn camera films developed into pictures and negatives by chain store photo desks.
They report that stuff, especially when it involves kids, as they should.
Bad for the mind. For good stuff that is far more interesting, see my blog.
Also arrests for viewing this stuff on Public Library computer, EVEN AFTER the viewer has left and something later noticed.

A few times before win XP came out. Back when i was fixing windows 98 systems there was a lot of "dialers" installed on peoples computers. They were computer programs usually installed without your consent designed to call premium numbers. You usually got them from visiting warez or porn sites. They were prevalent with dialup connections Today where most uses windows XP and have broadband instead of dialup..Nope and i don't snoop either. People who does this for a living is interested in keeping their clients not losing them

there are several high profile cases about porn being found on hard drives when they have been taken in for repair.. so if you have porn on yours and need it repairing the get if off before you send it in...
If it is girly porn that would be no problem.. but if it is any more sinister then there might/could be problems...

I run in to it every now and again unintentionally, though I ignore it - everyone has a right to privacy, I'm just there to fix the computer, and that's all I do.

I've fixed a lot of computers over the years, though that isn't my primary job, and I can honestly say I never looked to see if they had porn.

Its very easy to find out if a person has a porn on their computer. There are ways of getting ways of your footsteps haha. Go and wipe out your temporary internet files, clear our your browsing history and download and run ccleaner.

On almost all computers I get to reformat that were owned by kids, it's LimeWire that screwed them. The program itself is bad enough, God knows what they were downloading with it.

When I get a computer in for repairs, I don't go through the contents of the hard drive looking for anything except viruses and spyware. To go snooping in a client's history or looking at documents that may be on the hard drive is a major breach of ethics.
