Answers justifies us sitting on out backsides doing nothing for hours on end, while convincing ourselves that we are undertaking an intellectual exchange.
Hey, I'm all for justifying laziness. The phone book is too difficult, that takes thought, and I Google is too fast, it wouldn't justify long sessions of doing nothing.
Answers is the answer for the lazy masses.

Good Evening.
Here are the possible "Advantages"
(1) You get answers from "real" and "live" people.
(2) Instead of searching for the information yourself, you make the Community do it for you ( less frustration, less stress and less work)
(3) Get in touch with real folks, hence I have met genuine contacts VIA Email.
(4) Explanation. Sometimes you don't understand what you read from an article, so you might need clarification from the Answers Community.
(5) Convenience. It is just so addictive and entertaining, and you are allowed to participate whenever you want.
Take care, and enjoy the site!

The phone book won't help when you want to know if you're pregnant or pretty.
Seriously, the advantage of YA over a search engine is that you get feedback from people rather than just info from the internet. Search engines are great for researching things. Feedback is just another facet of research. Often human experience is richer than what might be on a search engine and you learn more that way.

Because with Google you'll get textbook like answers. Say for instance, someone has an automotive question, or a question about anything else that people can turn into a hobby. With YA, you have real life experience and know-how to refer to. I find it much more interesting to communicate with others that have a backround in their chosen vocation.
I would think that Google is a good place to start, but for real inside info, go to a person.

The phone book and googling doesn't make me laugh.
Some of the answers you get here are absolutely hysterical.
The only questions I ask here though, are one's I already know the answer to. I would never rely on an answer I got here.
Like the guy below me that thinks Che Guevera is Chi Riveria or something.
Cracks me up.

Yahoo has real people answering rather than a million sponsered and, nothing to do with the question, results.

Well... the answers certainly are more entertaining. The lack of simple spelling and grammar alone is befuddling and amusing.
