I have four children, my husband works and we don't claim benefit, so I think if you can show you can support a family without relying on the government for handouts and council houses it it up to the couple involved.
I know so many 'kids' around here who are popping out baby after baby knowing there's a council house and hundreds of £££'s waiting for them if they live that way.
Some people are just taking the p*ss.
EDIT, I can see that some are saying 3 is enough. That's fair enough, but I have four. My babies are too precious to me. I look after them. I don't leave them with ANYBODY. But some don't care about their kids. THEY are the ones who should be bloody sterilised.

I think the government should only support 3 children (child benefit and child tax credits) if you choose to have any more you should have to support them yourselves. In this day and age having any more than 3 kids should be deemed irresponsible, given the impact on the enviroment that they have. I don't suppose this will deter the 'every boyfriend/ husband needs a baby' lot in any way though.

Ideally 2 but not more than 3, any more than that and you are adding to the population problem because they will go on to multiply in future generations so it's not just a case of supporting them financially now but the impact it has on the environment and world's resources in the long term..The world's population has already doubled in the last few generations alone.
Edit - And I wonder why I got a thumbs down yet Sam didn't, even though we said the same thing essentially. xxxxxxxxx

I would say 3 is enough BUT I don't believe the government should have the right to stay 'Stop!'. There's more than enough govt. interference in our lives as it is.

That has to be a personal decision. I do believe that anyone bringing a child into the world needs to be emotionally and financially responsible enough to raise the child to be a productiive adult.

i think you can have as many as you want as long as you have the means to look after them yourself and not expect the government to give you hand-outs like half the people in this country do. some people have as many as possible just to get bigger housing from the council and more benefits to spend on fags and cans of lager. makes you sick really.

Permissible! It's purely a matter for the parents to decide, there's far too much interference by this nanny Govenment as it is.

Children are always permissible. everywhere. except to see " Adults Only " movies & the like.
The Govt can never say STOP to them. for they r everywhere. The Govt. needs them for they r the future leaders.
