I use EMusic. You have to pay for it but you get so many downloads a month. Might not suit you if your tastes are a bit more mainstream (but they have mainstream artists of yesteryear like Gary Numan the magnificent Kinks), but if you like obscure alternative music like I do there are many gems to choose from.

Just got some old songs CD from the Music Stores here in Sungei Way & had a great time listening to them. Do u listen to old songs too ?

That you tube convert thing I heard is good. DON'T DO LIMEWIRE!! It crashed my computer. Because of that stupid website, my mom doesn't trust anything else and I can't download music... So don't do Limewire, it's stupid and evil.
