Looking for dark, scary, and sinister classical music.?

I'm looking for dark, and scary classical music. Any type of instrument concertos are fine with me. The more the better!!

And also does anyone know the name, and artist of that song that is in the movies all the time. Usually used for slow motion scenes between two lovers trying to run to each other. Thanks in advance!

This is probably going to sound morbid, but I'm quite fond of slow, morose sounding songs (played piano for 10 years.)

Here are some of my personal favorites:

Piano Sonata No. 14 (Op. 27, No. 2) by Beethoven - better known as the "Moonlight Sonata"

"Lux Aeterna" from Requiem for a Dream (the movie) - that song gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it!

and two particularly fantastic pieces are Prelude in C-Sharp Minor (Op. 3, No. 2) by Rachmaninoff - if you listen to Rachmaninoff's actual recording of the piece, it's so emotionally charged, especially the frantic middle section link:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Wddtne7K... and Prelude in G Minor (Op. 23, No. 5) also by Rachmaninoff link:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjcAXvnWP... His Etudes Tableaux are also quite the killer.

In general, Chopin might be your best bet - listen to his noctures, some of them will make you want to cry. Also, Chopin's Funeral March (Op. 35, No. 2) is a pretty good bet.

    Hope that helped!!

    Creepy Classical Music

So my orchestra just finished a Scheonberg Festival and we played "5 Pieces for Orchestra". In the second movement there is a part where the celeste is playing this really innocent little melody, woodwinds are playing 'scary' chords (as my theory teacher called them), and the flute is doing this weird squeak thing. I don't really know what exactly. But everyone agreed it sounds so creepy. The celeste sounds like a little kids song, but the other elements mixed in are straight from a horror movie. Give it a listen, it's truly evil.

I also suggest Bach's Toccata and Fugue in d minor (organ or orchestra version both work, each depiciting a slightly different emotion). Another that I've heard as being described as horrific is Rite of Spring, by Stravinsky

    Try:

Berlioz - Symphony Fantastique (5th movement)

Bach - Toccata and Fugue in D minor

    Saint-Saens - Dance Macabre (possibly?)

The music used in the movies a lot to imply undying love (!) is most probably Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet Overture.

I've given you the links below.... enjoy!

Fingal's cave from the Hebrides by Mendelssohn! though it does have a soft part.

Also, Mozart's Piano Concerto in D minor as been called his dark piece.

The lovers music will either be

    1. Theme from Romeo and Juliet (1968) by Nino Rota. It has two sets of lyrics and may be called " What is a Youth" (the film version) or "A Time for Us."

This song is often used in horror movies, commercials to convey either terror or triumph, although that wasn't it's orginal intention. You can find it most easily under the name:

    carmina burana by Carl Orff
