How come Edge has to cheat to win matches against guys like CM Punk?

I agree with you completely, but Edge's character is the "ultimate opportunist" so every chance he can get to cheat he will take. As for Punk, maybe the WWE is building him up for the next level, maybe an upgrade to Smackdown, which I'm happy with if they do decide to push him.

But really, do all heels have to cheat to get over as a bad guy? I mean there are other ways, like acting obnoxious (it worked for the Miz when he was hosting the Diva Search and he was suppose to be a face). And just beating a fan favorite CLEAN and then acting cocky about it will get the crowd against you in no time. Heels winning a match by DQ, using the ropes for leverage or by interferences have been played out and don't get the same reaction anymore because every heel does it. This is why I'm getting so bored with pro wrestling it's all too the same and predictable.

To be honest, I think the person(s) in charge of Edge's character development doesn't know what he/she/they are doing.

They seem to have no idea what a wrestling "heel" is. They seem to think that as long as fans are disgusted then the character is working.

If you remember, my first question on Answers was quite similar to the one you're asking here. I got a lot of answers basically saying "it's to build heat".

For whatever misguided reasons, the WWE has turned Edge into a whining, sniveling, crying, weak coward who has to be forced to get in to the ring. When that does happen every match ends in yet another run-in. Hell, he brings the "run-in" WITH HIM to the ring now. When is the last time you saw Edge actually win a match on his own?

I don't have a problem with heels cheating to win (I've been a Ric Flair fan for 33 years!) but Edge is NOT a good heel.

If the reason for Edge's character development IS to build heat they are going about it the wrong way. I don't think even the Undertaker taking all of those chair shots is helping Edge get over.

Edge has sunk so low that people aren't "booing the bad guy", they're just disgusted.

Maybe Edge isn't physically capable anymore of working an entire match so the WWE is diverting our attention away from that by having run-ins in every Edge match? He IS quite limited now in the amount of moves he does compared to just a few years ago.

Because that's the only way Edge can establish heel heat anymore, unfortunately. They've gone too far with the "ultimate opportunist," now it seems that he can only win by cheating. Heels don't need to cheat in order to look like a bad guy, you can win a clean match and not only become a bigger heel, but also still get your opponent over as a good face. Edge used to have so much subtle heel emotions, now the only heeling he's allowed to do is cheating to win.

But how can people expect him to beat the Undertaker if he can't even beat Rey Mysterio & CM Punk clean?

Jericho vs Punk was a good match. Cm punk with his MMA ability and Jericho with his technical ability which made a good chemistry match. Wwe needs to put more matches like these on tv instead of ppv so it could give people more wise choices if they should buy the ppv or not in my opinion. The finish was the spot of the night. Punk should use the anaconda vise again. 1. The Best of 2008 yes. I wouldn't say the best in a long time as their was Shawn Michaels vs John Cena that took an hour of the show, Shawn Michaels vs Kurt Angle in an Iron man match, and The Rock vs Chris Jericho. 2. Yes in an Iron Man, 2 out of 3 falls, or Ultimate Submission. If it would happen next year.

I think it's a full-scale attempt by the storyliners to get Edge even further established as a "super heel" type character.It looks like they're trying to maybe get him over as one of the most hated heels in WWE history.By siding with Vickie & influencing her, he's drawing heat on himself even more.

By the same token, beating a mid-carder like CM ( i'm also a fan btw ) gets the fans firmly against him & also helps get CM over as well.It looks like the creative team want to be going into WM24 with the lines clearly drawn.Hated heel champion Edge v loved face challenger The Undertaker.

He is trying to get more heat from the crowd. There showing that CM punk and other guys can beat him but edge dosent allow it. its just to play a role as a heel.

good to see you're back here. but on your question, edge just does it to create heel heat. if he was to win cleanly against punk, it would make the match seem boring and it would make cm punk (a face) look weak and as if he cannot compete against the top stars. but if edge is cheating, it makes a solid heel statement and gets the fans to hate on him as one of their fan favourites is getting screwed.

They're trying to build up CM Punk.

IM NOT SURE WHY BUT ITS PROBALY THE ONLY WAY THEY CAN GET HIM OVER AS A HEEL. I KEEP HEARING HOW HE IS THE BEST HEEL EVER. WELL IF HE WAS SUCH A GREAT HEEL HE COULD BE A TOP HEEL AND WIN MATCHES CLEANLY AND WOULDNT NEED VICKIE.

ONLY REASON HE GETS ANY HEAT IS CUZ OF VICKIE AND CHEATING IN HIS MATCHES.

Doesn't cheating make you a good heel? At least the last time I checked it did.
