why has bottled water got a sell by date?

its been in mountains and lakes and stuff for thousands of years

    so you don't just keep it stored and you will have to buy more...

    It's like the single word that supposed to have increased shampoo sales - "Repeat".

    Wash hair, repeat.

    Do you really need to wash your hair again after washing your hair?

    Probably because the plastic

    container was not sterilized and if the water is left in it

    indefinitely, mold could begin

    to grow.

    You must have a sterile

    container, sterile product and

    vacuum packed to have a long shelf life.

    As far as the "mountains and lakes" business, it probably came out of someone's faucet. Do you

    really think all mountains and

    lakes still have pure and pristine water supplies???

    It isn't the water that is expiring, it is that the cheap plastic bottle. The bottle starts to break down and the chemicals leach into the water.

    So why not buy a water filter jug and refill your own plastic bottle? Bottled water is a racket, and is no safer than tap water.
