does anyone ever ask God for something then try to get if yourself?

Yes for most of my life. Then I became an alcoholic and I had to let go and let God. It worked I have found that god answers our prayers in his time not ours. Sometimes his answer is no and we have to accept that. He will never give us a mountain we can't climb!!

I think the best way to use prayer is to ask G-d to grant us the courage, strength, and the other key qualities that we will need to accomplish a task ourselves. We are selfish sometimes, and expect prayer to deliver everything we need, and sometimes we are fearful, and ask G-d to deliver the things we want in order to feel better. Honestly, I believe we are all capable of anything we want to accomplish. G-d is there to guide us through the way, to offer support, and to smile at us when we reach that goal. And sometimes we should use that prayer to assist other people, rather than just ourselves, when we see them struggling in an unfavorable situation.

i have always loved that poem. i think we can all relate. somethings we should take and leave for God to fix when we need his strength, but when people act helpless and give up, they should understand that some things are meant for US to fix and grow as people. yes i do all the time, but if you readd, it said i help tho who help them self, i think god , does he best work, when we too try to help out self,, but you ned to under stand, god got his own clock, an not only is he working to fill your need, he got other, in need,,, god under stand,,,

well.. that happens often in everyone's lives i think.. i guess we're just too stubborn for our own good..=)

but i don't think asking God means we just sit around n do nothing.. though we have to know when to let go, u know...=)
