I went to Petco yesterday because we wanted to change our puppy labs food?

They suggested pet promise and said it didn't have any fillers. I cant fine it on any of the comparison sites. Does anyone use this and what do they think of it?

Update:

They said it didn't have any fillers and is good for her. I can't find any information on comparison to other brands. Does anyone feed this and what do you think?

Sorry I have never heard of this food and personally I would not go by what a person told me from petco!

If your looking for a really good food for your puppy then look at Wellness puppy food! Petco carries it and it is very high quality food!

ADD: Thanks sonbear! I looked at the ingreedience in this food and personally I would not call it a good food at all. It has soy and brewers yeast and alot of other not so good things in it! Keep looking and check out the Wellness or go to a smaller pet shop and check out Canidae All life stages or their Lamb & Rice! It a wonderful food and it can be fed to your pup from now until it is well into adulthood! I can recomend this food very highly! I feed it to all my Golden's! My Golden's get the Lamb & rice.

Yes no fillers is goods. All fillers do is make up for Nutrition that the food is missing. When dogs eat food with fillers they poop more because they have no need for the fillers and do not absorb them so they need to get rid of them.

Not sure about Pet Promise, I am familiar with it. If you live near a all natural pet supply store that carries food like Canidaie, Merrick Wellness etc, check it out

Consider where the info is coming from and their motivation for trying to sell you this "great" food!

Would you believe everything a used car salesman, or any salesman told you about the product they want you to buy?

Or would you comparison shop, talk to other people that have owned that "great ____". It is very easy to read the ingredients on a bag of dog food, don't read the analysis, like protien % etc... read the actual ingredients. Are at least two or tree of the first ing. listed meat? Is there a lot of Corn, by-products, gluten and preservatives?

Sales-persons will tell you just about anything to get you to buy from them.

    INGREDIENTS:

Chicken, brewers rice, corn gluten meal, oat meal, pearled barley, fat naturally preserved with mixed-tocopherols (form of vitamin E), dried egg product, soy protein isolate, natural flavor, calcium carbonate, calcium phosphate, potassium chloride, salt, vitamins [Vitamin E supplement, niacin, Vitamin A supplement, calcium pantothenate, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin supplement, Vitamin B-12 supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride, folic acid, Vitamin D-3 supplement, biotin, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity)], L-Lysine monohydrochloride, (minerals) [zinc sulfate, ferrous sulfate, manganese sulfate, copper sulfate, calcium iodate, sodium selenite], choline chloride, L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate [source of Vitamin C].

    Pros:

Cons: Inadequate meat content, use of low quality grains, soy.

The first ingredient in this food is a named meat product but since this is chicken inclusive of its water content (about 80%) and this ingredient will weigh only about 20% of its wet weight once water is removed (as it must be to make kibble) it is likely that this ingredient would be more accurately placed further down the ingredient list. It is the sole meat product in the food.

Brewers rice is the primary grain, and primary ingredient in the food. It is a low quality grain and by-product.

Corn is a problematic grain that is difficult for dogs to digest and thought to be the cause of a great many allergy and yeast infection problems. We prefer not to see this used in dog food. The AAFCO definition of corn gluten meal is "the dried residue from corn after the removal of the larger part of the starch and germ, and the separation of the bran by the process employed in the wet milling manufacture of corn starch or syrup, or by enzymatic treatment of the endosperm". In plain English, that which remains after all the nutritious bits have been removed.

Oats and barley are decent quality grains, but soy flour is filler. Soy is a poor quality source of protein in dog food, and a common cause of allergy problems. Some believe that it is the number 1 cause of food allergies in dogs (outstripping even wheat).

You can find much better food than this. Stay away from Corn, Wheat, Soy, Whole grain sorgum, by products, preservatives that is chemically treated.
