Trying to start an IT acreer. What is my next move?
Many years ago I completed my first year in computer science before I had to quit for personal reasons. Since then I have never occupied an IT position but I have kept a small business on th side doing PC repair, sales and small networks. I recently tried to apply for a few IT jobs, mostly helpdesk types. All the feedback was unanimous. I need some more "networking" experience. For that I was considering getting my CCNA after taking a preparatory class for it. I attended the information session for the class and I am confident I can hack it.
Is the CCNA going to make me a better candidate?
Is there something else I can do other then go back to school for 2 more years to get my computer science degree?

About the CCNA....Its's great on paper, but it doesn't mean you can do the job. Don't let that keep you from pursuing it as a certification. It will set you on a higher pedestal than other candidates for any given position. But experience is still more valuable. This all comes down to the old question of which came first, the chick or the egg. In IT, you need a job to get experience, but you need experience to get a job. Well where the hell do you start?
While you wont get paid the greatest, easiest way to go about it is to catch on with an IT staffing firm (Robert Half, APEX Systems). I was in the same situation a few years ago and contacted APEX. Within 2 weeks I had 4 offers. While they were for entry level positions, it got my foot in the door and 2 1/2 years later I'm making great money and have a pretty kick *** job in the IT world
