Can a web site prevent you from connecting to their server?

How do they do it? I know the web site is active and thriving but I think they did something to prevent me from connecting to their servers. I violated one of their policies and they cut me off, but I want to reconnect with them to appeal the violation. Are they using my IP address? But I have a cable ISP and disconnected my cable for couple of hours so that when I reconnect, their DHCP server should assign me a new IP address but no change. I also changed my computer name but still cannot connect. Anyone can explain how they are doing this and how to get around it. I'm running Windows XP.

Thanks in advance.

they leave a cookie...which tell the website you have been banned.

use above program to remove ant internet trace you have on your computer and then try....

    to change mac address:-

If everyone on that segment of your ISP's system stays connected, disconnecting won't get you a new IP, because your old one is still the first one available.

Doing things to get around the ban, though, can get your whole provider's address block banned. Depending on how important the site is (say, AOL, for example), that could get your account terminated.

No one has any "right" to connect to any particular web site. If you're banned, accept it and get on with your life.

    1. Either the entire subnet is banned. ie all the dynamic ips you get are from withing a certain range.

    2. Your MAC address is blocked. Which is most likely. Try searching for MAC address (its like your IP, but does not change, it belongs to your hardware) to find out more. Not much you can do to change it, unless you spoof it.

most likely they are checking for your ISP and Mac address. Your mac address never changes no matter how many times your IP address does. So in most cases you are Hosed!

My hosting company has a control panel where you can do a lot of configuring for your web sites - one feature is to block certain IP addresses. so, yes, it can be done.
