My husband and I both love the "with or without you" by U2, but it wasn't appropiate for a first dance song. Instead, we played "beautiful day" at the end of the ceremony.

No, she's not. A wedding is not a celebration of your favorite band and your favorite song, it's a celebration of your life-long commitment to each other. The first dance song should reflect this. If you must have U2, pick a song that's more appropriate.

thats an awesome song, but I think she has a point, its not exactly first dance material, personally I think thats like having your first dance to "How Great Thou Art" or something. Maybe if you let her know how much it means to you to have a U2 song, you could suggest something more appropriate like "The Sweetest thing" "Slow Dancing" "Spanish Eyes" or a more love-themed song.
