Why are we looking to government for help with our housing woes?

Let's face it. Many people were duped into buying something they cannot afford and many lenders were giving out mortgages to everyone with a pulse. Are we going to be this so-called capitalist country and bail people out everytime you or I make a mistake? Your thoughts.

To answer your question, society as a whole as been fooled into believing that 'government' ( not the people but the representative body elected to high office in this case) is responsible for kissing our boo boos and taking care of our rough times. Folks seem to forget their are few certainties in life and that there never will be in a free society. We have traded freedom for security and will assuredly pay the price for it in the years to come.

the georgia geezer is dead right. not even the fda or fcc does its job. corporations are too powerful and do bad things to individuals. corporate power is abused and now being allowed to do as they please.

con men are supposed to get arrested. it is like stealing from children. some men rob with a pistol and some with a ball point pen. little people are truly run over without rules and regulations that lawyers and accountants prepare to protect them. it should be illegal to rob from the blind. but trickle down economics believes differently.

without oversight, transparency and accountability, the meanest of the mean do well. our government has failed the working men. they let the bankers and corporate chiefs get rich and let the working class sink.

then they looked the other way while 20 million illegals join the labor force to create huyper competition for even the modest of jobs. that is not what the vast majority want.

get to the hear to the matter - the u.s. congress. those are the fine folks who control spending and make laws and authorize the codes and regulations. leave them to do as they please and it will squeeze you to death. month by month and year by year, there will be a small elite class and a huge underclass.

isn't that the opposite of what america was intended to be? isn't that why they rebelled against king george and fought the american revolution?

it the government looks the other way while corporate america robs the little man with fine print and foggy details etc. then maybe it can go the other way, too. the little man can bring that house of cards down.

we need some damn tough judges to really make examples of far more than enron and the like. too little, too late. no, maybe some factories and such need to be boycotted or we need to have the guts to fight back like the labor movement once did. management cannot be profitable if the steal and make life too intolerable and unacceptable for the working men and women of america.

all that is needed is the guts to join together and tell them no more profits and we can shut you down, by god! hasn't the working man and women of america got the guts to shut some of these robbers down? that includes corrupt banking schemes, bubbles and anything else that stands in the way to a decent life.

that is what american needs right now! not obama, not anybody with vague, blue-sky promise and bs! go to the streets, sit down, boycott and take action, by god, enough is enough! vote them all out of the u.s. congress, boycott, strike and raise hell until they change or do the hell out of business. we can survive. but this situation is no longer tolerable.

Why did the Fed bail out Bearn Sterns? They should have let them crash and go broke? Why didn't they? Isn't that the law of capitalism? Oh, but we let poor people crash and go homeless and get scammed by corporate criminals. I agree with Old geezer and the other individual. We have let the banks do what they want and now they are basically criminals.

Because our so-called government failed to provide the necessary regulation of the mortgage broker and investment banking industries. Help the rich become really wealthy has been the hallmark of the Bush administration.

i agree. why do we always have to help people who make stupid decisions. No wonder the world is getting worse everyday. it doesnt matter what it is, someone wants help. You make your bed and you have to lay in it. thats the way it should be.
