What happened to "we're losing the war"?
According to Yahoo News, the Iraqi government has given the militias a period of seventy-two (72) hours to drop their weapons and cease hostilities. If not, they will finish the job once and for all with our help. But wait, I thought we were losing the war. It turns out that we may be home in a period of 2-3 months (after wiping out militias, reserve a few troops to help train the Iraqis to defend their country, but pull back most of the troops.) Yes, it took 4,000 deaths to win this war, but the death toll would be worse if we left before the job is done. I only hoped they would have had this boldness in Fallujah, which would have shortened it 1-2 years. What happened to we're losing the war?

Oh the we want to surrender crowd will be back if the Iraqi Government doesn't follow through. That means they have to step up and take out Al Sadr, because if they do not then the militia attacks will continue.

We've been hearing from the Bush administration for five years now that we're winning the war, we're turning the corner, we're making progress, etc. It hasn't been true all along, so why should people believe it now?
The Iraqi government has no power over the Iraqi people. They see that WE picked their government, and they don't consider it legitimate. (Likewise the government in Afghanistan).
Meet me back here in 72 hrs and we'll see if the Iraqi puppet government was able to disarm the militias. 8^D

Are you seriously challenged? You are talking about one militia army (Mehdi Army) here. This is only going to shift the power to another militia army (SCIRI). Americans don't like Al Sadr, but this is not a major victory for American interests. This is the Shiite governement taking action against a Shiite militia. There are many more cities and more militias as well as Sunni insurgents and Al Queda in Iraq to fight.
What a dense person. You call this a question? Jeez.
Now that you see the whole picture, are you ready to declare "Mission Accomplished"?

We were never loosing but we are now on our way to finishing it.
What some light hearted libs don't get is people die in war its a fact, we don't live in some sort of "happy sunshine & flowers land" where no ones dies in war. The men & women who join our military do so under no disalusionment that your anything but a soldier. A soldier's job is to, yes fight.
It is a heart breaking reality but some will die. But will not be forgotten.

You're probably being overly optimistic, there. But, yes, a victory in Basra would be a large step in the right direction.

I guess we'll see in 72 hours....Remember Mission Accomplished 5 years ago?

I agree.
The problem is that the media makes a choice to mainly report on setbacks and failures. It isn't any fun when they report the good we are doing and the lives touched in a positive way, which many have been.

Having a puppet gov't give "orders" doesn't mean anything's going to happen. They already tried that and didn't work, remember? And it's been 5 yrs and counting. Fool.
