It's old school, and I love it. It's a strong, simple biblical name. If you don't like nicknames, this is a great choice for you, or you can nickname her Roo. I think it's great!

Well i'm gonna be honest,
I think Ruth is too old school like you say. There are lots of other beautiful names - if you really love Ruth then use it as a middle name =)
Best wishes!

No! There is a beautiful little girl in my daughter's class named Ruth. My aunt was named Ruth too - It is not an ugly name at all! If you love it, use it! Give her a big middle name though - like 3-4 syllables!

I think that it is different and while it is slightly "old-sounding" to our generation, by the time she gets to school age I think it will be a great name that will be just starting to get popular. My reasoning is 1) that old-fashioned names are coming back into style, 2) Ruth is not one of those names that is all vogue right now (like Emma, Amelia, etc.), 3) you will be ahead of the CURVE!
Plus, I think Ruthie is a sweet little nickname for her as a child.
I think if you name her that she will have the benefit of a traditional name without the preponderance of being the fourth "Ellie short for Eleanor" in the classroom. good luck!

I absolutely LOOOOOVE the name Ruth. It's been one of my favorite girls names for YEARS, and I've always wanted to name a daughter Ruth, but my boy friend told me he only likes it as a middle name. I think it's beautiful tho.

i think the name Ruth itself is a bit old. However I like it because it's Biblical.
I wouldn't use Ruth, I'd use Ruthie or RuthLin
spice it up a bit :)

Not a fan of the name Ruth. Very old fashioned. But if you like it and it feels right then it doesn't matter what I think! : )

That's my middle name and I love it. I was teased a little- but that was back in the 80's, so I'm over it now.
Great women are named Ruth. You can call her Rudy as a nickname later on too!

I love Ruth. It's simple, elegant, feminine and classic. It's also growing in popularity again; a friend of mine is a teacher and there are four Ruths in one of her classes.
Go for it.
