Does anyone know which forms of mind control scientology uses?

I've looked into it a bit, and I find some of their techniques to be more than a little disturbing. Does anyone have links to case studies, or other sources that would clarify the extent of the psychological harm that it can induce?

Update:

Holy **** Zero, that's insane! What a horrible cult, it's MUCH worse than I had imagined, and I already had a bad opinion of Scientology!

An ex-member has written an excellent explanation for the power Scientology has to control people, even wise and skeptical folks who never thought they'd be taken in by a cult: http://www.xenu.net/archive/personal_story/funkydo...

This is also an excellent, detailed essay regarding the use of mind control in Scientology... it was written by Monica Pignotti, Cult Intervention Specialist and former Scientologist: http://www.freedomofmind.com/resourcecenter/groups...

Here you'll find an INCREDIBLY detailed exposé from FACTnet.com on the methods of social/mind control in Scientology: http://www.factnet.org/Books/SocialControl/scs.htm...

It's mostly social pressure that it works by. The church member is surrounded by other Scientologists and they're all going on all the time about Scientology. Also some of the therapy practices - involving babyhood 'memories' and pre-birth 'memories' - are designed to drive a wedge between the Scientologist and their family, and if the family disapprove of Scientology the Scientologist is encouraged to write them a 'letter of disconnection'. This leaves them with fewer contacts and more reliance on fellow church members.

Just the tired old brainwashing methods that the Jehovah's witnesses and the Mormons use. Tired and old but quite effective in people who can't think more than a sheep might!!

P.S. I might add that the ACLU and the NEA and the antigod agenda uses the same logic in our public schools too.
