Problem with my freeview box, can someone help, please?
Hi!
I've had my freeview box since july 2007 and everything worked fine until yesterday. I tried to switch the box on with the remote but nothing happened. Obviously, the first thing I did was to check the batteries but they were fine.
I then switched the power on and off at the mains and the box switched on. But I could not switch channels at all. The only way to control the box is by remote.
The problem seems to be with either the remote sensor or the box.
The box is a Sagem ITD 58.
Has anybody got any idea what is wrong with it? Or has anyone had a similar problem with their box/remote?
I've looked on the manual and on the internet but to no avail.
Thanks for any help/advice!
I think the guarantee was only for 6 months (typical!).
I did think of trying with a universal remote control. Do they really work? I haven't heard great reviews about them...

Sometimes freeview boxes can go a bit iffy. Have you tried checking the aerial connection to the back of the box? Are the connections to the TV/video/etc all secure?
Sometimes I get green squares on my screen, but that's because of the poor reception in this area. Try turning the box off for 30 seconds then turn it on again. If you still have this problem, then you may have to go and see the manufacturer or the place where you got it from. Also check if the quality of reception of digital TV in your area is up to scratch.

As you say, it's either the remote has died, or the IR sensor in the box itself... You could try and get a "Universal" remote control and see if you can get that to work?
