NFL MOCK DRAFT: And with the 5th pick in the draft the Kansas City Chiefs Select......?????
1 Miami - Chris Long DE
2 St Louis - Jake Long OT
3 Atlanta - Glenn Dorsey DT
4 Oakland - Darren McFadden RB
5 Kansas City Chiefs - ontheclock
Please make a pick base on the these 4 prior picks. If you need more info on why these players were picked check my profile for past question on mock draft. Ok you be Carl Peterson(Chief's GM) and work your draft room. Who or what do the Chiefs do with their Pick. Their Biggest need is Offensive Line but with Jake Long off the board, do they Reach for someone like Ryan Clady, go best available and take Gholston even though end is not a need, Defensive Tackle is a possibility with Sedrick Ellis. Or maybe Matt Ryan, afterall how much faith could the Chiefs have in Brodie Croyle? Trade Down is a good possibility too, possible trade partners could be New England looking to leap the jets to get Gholston, or maybe the bengals looking for Sedrick Ellis, while the chiefs get value by moving back and can take that tackle at a better slot.
Please dont Pick Players that have already been picked, Jake long went #2 to the Rams. So he is not avialable.
I dont understand why people are so obsessed with Jake Long going #2. He is the best tackle on the board and any team looking for a tackle like the rams, dolphins, Atlanta are going to be looking hard at him. If the rams dont take Jake you can bet the farm Atlanta will take him. watch and see there is no way Jake Long last any longer than the 3rd pick.

I think they trade down to get a good offensive lineman latter in the draft, probably to the Pats who want gholsten.

I would be surprised if Jake Long went earlier than this, but under these circumstances I think they would take Sedrick Ellis.
Edwards and Boone do not provide the Chiefs with disruptive inside forces to stop the run and/or get some pass rush. Ellis could come in right away and provide some help. This need isn't as glaring as O-Line is, but guys like Clady, Williams and Otah are not worth top 5 picks here. I think you would have to go Ellis.
Gholston is arguably a better all-around player than Ellis, but Hali and Allen are solid pass rushers from the end and Gholston's services are really not needed there. If you're the Chiefs, sticking him at an OLB spot doesn't work either because they already have a great linebacking crew with Edwards, Harris and Johnson. Gholston would be a nice pick to provide some depth but if I'm the GM of the Chiefs, I want someone to help me right away.
So I think #1 on their list would be Ellis, #2 would be Gholston.
Since I'm the GM though, I personally would try to trade down to maybe a 10-15 spot and then take a Ryan Clady or Chris Williams. Not only does this provide some help with the biggest hole in the offense, it would please my star player Larry Johnson, and also provide me with later picks in the draft from whoever traded up to #5. That would be best case scenario.

The chiefs have a lot of holes to fill. They need d line help secondary help wr help and qb help IF they don't believe in Brodie Croyle. However, the staple of the Chiefs for years has been the o line which has started to age, whither and crumble. They desperately need to rejuvinate this unit. Ryan Clady OT Boise State is the best pick. And he's not a reach at 5.

SO many choices. If I were them I would take Matt Ryan. Brodie Croyle is not the answer. But what do I think will really happen? I think they will take Sedrick Ellis. Offensive Lineman are a dime a dozen in this draft, and I think Sedrick Ellis is their highest rated player left.

the cheifs' top need is at OT
clady is the 2nd best OT, but this would be a reach to draft him
their 2nd need is at QB, so matt ryan is a logical pick
the only other choice that would make sense is sedrick ellis, but with matt ryan still on the board, they are unlikely to draft ellis
they could trade down to a pick around 8th overall and 12th overall to select ryan clady, but matt ryan is too good to pass

St Louis isn't going to get Jake Long so this is already unrealistic! But since J-Long is gone its gotta be Mike Jenkins(CB), Aqib Talib(CB), or Limas Sweed(WR)! That defensive secondary is getting old & soft and their recieving corp is trash outside of Dwayne Bowe. Limas is possible but most likely the best would be Mike/Aqib.
St.Louis need a D-lineman more than a tackle they still got O-Pace! Atlanta's line isnt THAT bad & they need a QB, D-line, & maybe a D-back if D-Hall leaves. THATS WHY JAKIE LONG ISN'T GOING WITHIN THE TOP 3! Jake should truly go as #4 instead of McFadden but Al Davis is borderline retarded & bit eon the D-Mac hype

Matt Ryan is a no Brainer here, but im sure they would think about Gholston who has seen his stock kinda rise freakishly like that of Mario Williams. All 32 teams in the NFL need another great pass rusher.
Source(s): But the chiefs need a QB, not saying that Ryan is the answer just that at least they have 1 more option than they did last year. - 1 decade ago
They think they would take Golhston with the pick.
Matt Ryan, and Ryan Clady are also options if this comes up. I could see the potential for them to trade the pick as well.

Vernon Gholston would be their pick, although I would hope we would trade down for O-line, but not going to happen with Mcfadden off the board.
