Lundqvist vs Brodeur...whose the weird one?

Martin Brodeur had been quoted as saying of the Rangers' goaltender, "The way he plays is not something I like too much. Lundqvist is weird."

Which style is better for the NHL today...The sit back in the net style of Lundqvist or the flop around style of Brodeur?

This question is purely on style...Not on career success, because that's not fair to judge. I want to know whose style you think works better in the NHL. You may break it down into categories. Which style is good for a break away, a screen, deflections, scrambles in front of the net, even wraparounds (matteau, matteau, matteau). I want evidence.

I really like both of them and New Jersey is a close second fave to Buffalo, but as far as style is concerned I like Lundqvist. I think Brodeur is an excellent goalie but it has always been my complaint that can be a drama queen, which just irritates me when anybody does it. He has a tendency to overexaggerate, my example fo being a Chinese acrobat when stopping a fanned shot. It can be exciting at times, but sometimes he overdoes it, and as a Devils fan, that would make me nervous. Same way Hasek made me nervous when he played here, same way Ryan Miller makes me suicidal. Stylistically, I think I would be more inclined to play back in net like Lundqvist, but then, they're the ones making millions to pay a game for a living and I make $11 an hours so who am I?

OBVIOUSLY there is no comparison....Brodeur is THE MAN.

That said, Brodeur has IMO a very weird hybrid style. Often times he reminds me of a ball hockey goalie.....the way he will be a stand up goalie for LONG portions of the game....then all of the sudden, he will be laying down stacking the pads....very.....unique. Something else that amazes me with Brodeur is that he is as cool as a cucumber. Hardly a "flop around style." Also, he is the best puck handler in the NHL and the best in the NHL at controlling his rebounds.

I like Lundqvist alot too. I think he is a good one indeed. His style is kind of half butterfly....half hybrid. Actually, I would call his style a different variation of the butterfly...thus hybrid. He doesn't automatically drop into the butterfly position....only on low shots.

i am a ranger fan and i don't know why but i can't really see marty brodeur saying something that negative about a player that he plays against often and should respect. I think he probably means that lundqvist's style is unique and just different. brodeur shouldn't be the one to talk about unique styles but i really don't think he meant it in such a negative way. I do respect marty but i would have to say lundqvist is better.

(matteau, matteau, matteau- that was funny)

Yeah, yeah slovak Lundqvist is 7-0 this year against Brodeur. When Henrik's got three Cups and Veznias, then we'll compare goaltenders. Oh, yeah before this season, the Devils owned the Blueskirts.

I personally hate the flopping style (hasek uses it), but its the better style. Brodeur and Hasek are stars. Lundqvist is still climbing.

  • No one plays like Brodeur any more but he is the better goalie

Actually judging on career success is perfectly reasonable since the style used by the successful players is probably superior.
