My dog won't eat!?
My 10 month old shepard/boxer wont eat his food! We have given him dried food his entire life and have not changed the brand... he will eat snacks and other things but not the food! Its been 2 days. We did give him worm pills just prior to this and are suspicious this may have something to do with this, but, again, he will eat other things (including twist ties and golf balls! We took them away before he actually swallowed them). Any thoughts??

If he just had medications of any kind it may be he isn't feeling too well and is giving him tummy a rest.
Stop feeding him treats and scraps (anything really) and put him on a feeding schedule (amount specified on the bag, broken into two-three feedings per day, same time each day.) If he doesn't eat his regular food in a few days then it's time for the vet to see if it's something serious.
Dogs don't starve themselves so it could be something bad if he doesn't eat. Don't baby him by hand feeding or adding yummy stuff - he'll pick around the kibble and will continue to refuse food even after he is well again, just because he wants the extra attention.
You can also call (it would be free) to see what they say to give him.

This is a sad thing to say, and i hope that i am wrong. But in the next 24 hours or so if he doesn't start eating again, take him to a vet. quickly. I had a cat once that stopped eating. and she ended up dying. i did not know that she had a kidney disease that could have been treated if i would have took her to a vet when i first noticed the problem. I was feeding her baby food with a turkey baster for about a week. but when after just a few moments after letting her go. she would throw up. I wish i took her to vet in the first few days that i noticed the problem, but i did not and it went on too long and i had to put her down... I hope this is not the problem with your beloved dog. Please don't let it get too bad because there may be something you dog would tell you if he can. Take you baby to the VET.

Get a Vet check...but it's probably simpler than that; stop the snacks and treats immediately! Put a half cup of water over the dry food and see if he accepts it. My girl has lately fallen into the habit of not eating 'til after I am finished. LOL I think she thinks I'll give her people food. NOT! Check his teeth...he could have something wedged between teeth or in his gum that is giving him pain. Good luck.

well my family had a Boxer and we currently have a Shepard... and both when they were younger than a year and a half wouldn't eat unless you put the food in your hands and let them eat out of your hands... not sure if it will help you... but I just thought I would throw that out there for ya... good luck!!!

Have you seen him pass stool since he had his worming medicine? If he has then perhaps he needs a bit more in his diet now. Some raw chopped meat mixed in, I gave my puppy carrots to teeth on. Now when I am preparing vegetables she munches on raw everything - broccoli, celery, cauliflower, etc.

Our dogs went through phases of not liking their food- I agree with the first poster. Try to hand feed. Sit on the floor with your puppy and give him food from your hands like you would with a treat.

he might be bored of his dry food, get wet dog food and mix some in to the food thoughroughly, my german sheppard did the same thing at 5 years of age i use pedegree prime sliced turky with gravy over her purina food, that kept her busy, or change the brand of food she eats, if this doesnt work take her to the vet-
hope this helps!XD

don't leave the food out all day feed him once a day and keep the food out for 20 mins and if he doesnt eat it then take it away and repeat everyday at same time

If you had that dog food more than two months it is probably expired. It could also be that you dog doesn't like it anymore.
